[2013 EOYT] England

It's kind of cool, but on the other hand, I'd prefer if he was more pre-emptive on the winger front. Brown and Foden will keep us going for a few good years yet, but wing is a bit of a mess. I'd prefer May or Monye (bring on the mocking :p, I rate the guy) to be training with the England camp so that they can be called up and slot in at a moment's notice.

Been really impressed with Monye lately, same with Topsy Ojo.
To be fair there are a number of wings in the premiership playing very well this season (such as all time top try scoring Mark Cueto, who could even fill in at 13 while Tuilagi is away.... :p)

Really?
I've seen him far more at 15 than wing. I know he can play wing, and has done a fair amount, but I got the impression he was a fullback who filled in at wing due to Tom Homer being Irish's first choice fullback.

As far as I'm aware his first choice is as a winger... could be wrong. I think he's played in one position as much as the other.
I think he's best suited to FB though, and has the potential to be an extremely good international player there.

Think this is more an experience thing, than grooming him for the EPS.
Daly is in the Saxons, so is already in Lancasters plans at some level.

So Ideas for team for Argentina Match?

A team that wins.

Seriously though, I think if we had Crobs, Parling and Wade in the side with maybe a change in SH/FH role depending on performance, I think England could put in some good performances. We have to remember this England team is still pretty young and not had much time together. Personally I feel if we don't put away Argentina by at least 10+ then we need to seriously consider our choices.

Why not have another shot at Toby Flood as inside centre and Freddie Burns on the bench? TF is the only contender with real nous at international level and this next match should give an opportunity to have a good look at all of them before the crunch game.

Can't see that..
Would like to see burns starting or at least on the bench

At junior level Watson was a full-back and has played there for LI. Its probably his long term position although clearly he's nothing to sniff at as a wing. Hopefully he'll play both to a high level, its highly annoying how few players we have who can do that.

I'll bow to your superior knowledge, I had thought he was a full back but can remember hearing/reading somewhere at the beginning of the season that wing was his preference.
As you say he can do both pretty well though.

After re-watching the first half of he game I've got a couple of thoughts:

1 - Tomkins played well - Aside from going high on Kuridrani his defence he was very sharp, he had a high workrate and was effective. He played as I hoped he would.

2 - Wade is suited to England's defensive system - Because we defend very narrowly we need the last man to have enough pace to cover the massive space on the outside - this is how he defends for Wasps and is effective for them.

After thinking about the game i would not have said Tomkins played well, nor would i have said he played badly but the centre combo just didn't click. I wonder how much of that was the Farrell 12trees link or how much was that 12trees tomkins link? (i know 12trees had a shocker).

Wasn't happy about Tomkins dropping the switch from Farrell, that was his main attacking opportunity and he blew it. Possibly not all his fault. Probably should be persevered with but I wasn't too happy.

And maybe Watson did say he preferred wing and I missed it. I would probably already play him ahead of Ashton on the wing.

That pass from Farrell looked like it was thrown far too hard, that is of course assuming it was off the cuff.
If it was planned then it should have been taken.

Preaching to the converted, I know, but...

Chris Ashton has been picked ahead of this bloke for the past year.
