I'm really not too impressed with Hogg starting at 10 and Maitland starting at 15 tonight. I feel that it's a thankless job for the two of them, as even if both have outstanding games, neither are going to be starting any test games in these positions. I worry that the only thing they could possibly do is harm their chances for starting in their regular positions if they don't have the best game (out of position), and as such Gatland, by taking only two proper number 10's with him has caused this situation.

That said, I'm happy to see that Ryan Grant has been called up to the squad. I really do rate this guy highly, plus he's another Scot.

Maitland has actually spent quite a bit of time at 15, prior to heading overseas anyway. While his preferred position is wing, he shouldn't have any issues at the back. Also, I can't see it harming his chances of being selected - if he has a decent game it all but guarantees he'll get that 22 jersey for the tests, as it will simply prove he can handle fullback. Likewise, if he runs well, it's not a whole lot different to what he'd be doing on the bench. I expect all three outside backs to have great games - with at least six tries between them. The Lions should put 100 points on their opposition tonight.

And for Hogg, it's unlikely he'd wrestle the 15 jersey off Halfpenny anyway, so I really can't see it making a big difference if he plays poorly.

Infact I read somewhere that he wanted to become a specialist fullback when he moved to the NH, but has played on the wing because of Hogg at Glasgow and Scotland.
