2013 British and Irish Lions

If SOB is out it will be Robshaw replacing him.
Nearly certain around time of squad announcement it was said he'd be 1st reserve for backrow. Might be wrong but also that was before the fact he hasn't played in weeks with injury

I'd repeat what I've already said, though I don't feel I should have to.

Plus, Sexton and Stevens as leaders? Sexton is a great player but hardly an on field leader (in my ignorant opinion), and Stevens is good for the post match karaoke, but that's about it.

When asked about leaders at Leinster. Nacewa said of course there's guys like O'Driscoll and Cullen but the guy who really stands out is Sexton. (Or something like that.)

Well I had never really got that impression from watching Sexton play, though clearly Nacewa knows better than I.

Now do we really need to continue to debate a point based on a matter of opinion?

It is what the forum is for isn't it?

I wasn't trying to continue it and if you don't want to fine.

What's the general opinion for the South African and New Zealanders, would you rather see the Lions win or Aussies win? Or not really bothered?
Gaustralia but then again I am a Boer so its obvious I would be rooting for anyone playing against the Lions

I was joking about Stevens, glad someone spotted it.

As for Sexton, yes I would really rate him as a leader. H Cup final 2011 - BOD was asked who was speaking and what was said at half time to turn it around, and his exact words were "Sexto was phenomenal". One of the greatest players ever said Sexton was inspirational.
You can always see him shouting and commanding his forwards and constructing play, Stuart Barnes (not everyone's cup of tea) even said the real leader on the pitch will be Sexton because he'll be controlling the game. If Sexton was named captain for Ireland I wouldn't mind.

He is a 10 he is suppose to control the game. Doesn't make him a good leader though. How well does he speak to referees? Can he organize the defensive line like a JdV. If no you will be better of with a forward as captain

At least there will be violence on the tour. Normally the case where ever the Lions go. Fist fights, balls grabbing, gouches etv etc all over the place. If they lose the Series the Aussies will be called thugs

Who let you out from under the bridge?
Those darn English

The best thing about this game for me is the South African and Lions players working together about 2 months after the Lions tour. Best sport in the world mate

Good Aussie analysis on the frontrow. Though I'm sure some will take issue with comments on Jones' work ethic.

Not that good analysis. Mainly just stating the obvious of what everybody knows already. Also chats some rubbish about Adam Jones making the usual mistake of getting confused on early reputation and actual performances on the pitch, forgetting that he has evolved into a scrummaging prop who can add value to the team in defence around the fringes and at mauls. There's also an amusing comment claiming Jack McGrath of all people is the only prop to have "dominated" him.

I suggest your read the comment again anything that looks like dominance and then I suggest you watch some of those scrums again. ;)

Also it's not me you need to lecture I know Jones is a good fringe defender though his other work does leave a little to be desire especially to the standard most Aussie props are judged by in the loose. It's good analysis for it's purpose with Aussies who wouldn't know as much about the Llions frontrow and the video has good examples.

Thank god you posted those gifs, for a minute I thought I might get to read a thread that actually loads smoothly for once.

I don't think there was anything incorrect said about Adam Jones tbh. I accept that he's somewhat limited in open field, but that doesn't stop him from being one of the best tightheads in world rugby, because his scrummaging is second to none. His loose work is mainly based around a good fringe defence, and rucking (I don't think the article was fair on him in this regard), although his passing is underrated, he has little problems filling in for a scrum half when required. He offers little in terms of ball carrying, and his tackling can be a little passive for his size.

There are certainly much better tightheads when it comes to loose play, but at the end of the day having Adam on the pitch can often be the difference between winning and losing when he puts the team on the front foot at the scrum and/or gains penalties.
