Think Hines has retired from international rugby - presumably that covers Lions as well.
I would have reservations about making that assumption. Certainly that assumption would appear not to apply to Jonny Wilkinson.

Well yeah, because he specifically came out and said as such.I would have reservations about making that assumption. Certainly that assumption would appear not to apply to Jonny Wilkinson.

I don't think players ever retire from Lions duty.
I don't think the coaches would bother to make things even harder for themselves in terms of selection in the case of someone who has already semi-ruled themself out, when you consider that there's about 8 other available locks who have sometime in the last few years, shown that they are capable of great rugby:
Charteris, B. Davies, Gray, Lawes, Launchbury, O'Connell, Parling, Ryan, Wyn-Jones.
Sorry if I've missed any obvious ones. From the above, we only take 5. **** me I literally cannot wait; Lions tours are the best and most excitement rugby has to offer.
Hines and Thorn are the only opposition locks where as a Bok fan I've ever felt damn, that guy again.
http://www.thesportreview.com/tsr/2013/01/scotland-six-nations-british-irish-lions-warren-gatland/35 players made up of a 19 to 16 split between forwards and backs, possibly 20 to 15. We'll have three hookers, three 9s, three 10s and an extra prop. It means that in nearly all other positions there'll be two players fighting it out for one spot.
Mick the mighty O'Driscoll who reached an impressive 457 before retiring. A munster veteran, who was fully entitled to a pension and a stair lift.Who am I looking at?
Bowe isn't fit mate, he's just recently had surgery to correct an injury he got int he Ulster-Northampton game a few weeks back. He wont be back till near the end of the club season at best I think. Opens the door for most of the talented young's 14's in the isles though I suppose.Right, here's my highly dubious team which ONLY SELECTS PLAYERS CURRENTLY FIT.
1) Healy
2) Best
3) Cole
4) Launchbury
5) Parling
6) Wood/Robshaw - I'm genuinely unable to choose.
7) Tipuric
8) Heaslip
9) Care
10) Sexy
11) Halfpenny
12) J. Davies
13 O' Driscoll
14) Bowe
15) Foden
16) Corbisiero
17) A. Jones
18) Hartley
19) B. Davies / Gray / Ryan
20) O'Brien
21) Blair
22) Hook
23) Kearney
8 Oirish
8 Poms
6 Welshies
1 Scotch
Note: I'm aware that Jonathan Davies plays 13 for Wales, but he plays 12 for Scarlets alot, and I'm always impressed with him there - great footballing skills.
Obviously I'm aware that Halfpenny is currently playing at full-back for Wales, but he's spent much of his career on the wing and I feel that untill we have a second winger who is on top form and demanding a starting place, the two full-back solution is better.
Nearly went for Gray instead of B. Davies but it would feel a bit of a cop-out to be honest - maybe I'm wrong but I don't think he's been fantastic this season and I worry that lots of us me included reel his name out simply because we know he has played very well in the past... he's got to earn it.
Launchbury - I haven't entirely played by my own rules because I feel that he needs this six nations to build consistency and cement his England place. If the Lions starting XV was being picked tomorrow it would feel rather premature choosing him as a starter.
The close one's: Cole/Adam Jones is very tight, and to be honest if thats our biggest problem (its not!) then we're laughing. I'd be happy with either but I really appreciate Cole's work in the loose.
It feels harsh/almost insane not to have someone of Tuilagi's talent at least on the bench... the impact he could have. I think I'd look very closely at Brian's form nearer the time just to make sure. As I say, O'd Driscoll at present would be my first choice, but I also think 12. Davies 13. Tuilagi could work...?
Hook versus Farrell felt like a tough one, as they both bring such different assets.... I went for Hook for his versatility, and also because with Priestland out injured I have some faith that Hook will get some gametime at 10 during the six nations.... maybe I'm wrong?
O'Brien versus the one of Wood/Robshaw not starting was tough... but Sean can play all 3 positions well and is without doubt a good impact player (and much much more)
I felt Morgan only lost out very narrowly to Heaslip but I really rate Heaslips all round game, and that includes his fitness and experience.
I would have been more than happy with Kearney at 15 instead of Foden...but I had to choose one, and i'm a foden fan...
