I'm built like a prop, he wouldn't stand a chance. ;)

Yeah, just Googled and it's from ESPN's "East Terrace", which is their joke/spoof blog :p

Oh.......ummmm....yeah I knew that. shhhh.

Actually, that expalins a lot, this "East Terrace" must have been where I read that England thrashed the All Blacks. Phewf, I'd been having nightmares about that, thanks for easing my mind

I just did a quick backgroudn check - apparently most of the English media are somehow employed by "East Terrace".

A lot of their articles start to make a lot of sense now... And would sort of explain Austin Healey.

In attack maybe, but judging by how easily Fofana brushed him off, his defence is far from good enough to be an international 13, at least not yet. We also haven't had a chance to see his distribution game.

What do people think about Jon Davies' chances. His game v Ireland was terrible, and his distribution is still pretty poor. However he does have strengths. His defence was superior to any other centre this 6 nations (he'd made over 90% of his tackles before the England game), and I don't remember him missing one in that game), and he is a strong runner with ball in hand. I thought he was more effective at carrying that ball than Roberts this campaign, and always got over the gainline against England on Sat. If given a chance he certainly knows his way to the try-line.

Do those strengths outweigh his big weakness though? The again, Tuilagi isn't too much better in the distribution department. I'd probably have him as just missing out, but I would possibly take him above Marshall and Twelvetrees. I have been impressed with Scott though.

I'm actually a big fan of Davies and would definitely carry the *******. I'd also carry twelve trees if form comes again I've followed him for a few years and he's handy as ****.

As for a poor distributing 12 it doesn't bother me as much , I'd love a battering ram at 12 and a scythe at 13. If you want to hit it wide there are plenty of ways to avoid 12 yet still have him fix a couple of defenders.

I actually completely forgot about Beck. Is he back from injury/back soon?

I think that if over in Australia Kearney hits top form he's a better player than Halfpenny when both are at their best and he could get the nod ahead of him. Halfpenny is the most likely player to start due to his extremely high level of consistency but if, and it's a big if, Kearney hits top form he could overtake Halfpenny.
I think time's definitely on Halfpenny's side at the minute. Kearney will have to hit and maintain form very soon if he's to show that he's got the required consistency. Same with most other contenders. Only big performances will dislodge Halfpenny at this point.

Add the fact that he's been Gatland and Howley's rock and Farrell's preference for defensive players, I'm pretty sure Halfpenny will be starting.

Whether or not they consider playing two fullbacks is a different matter...

Beck came back for the Ospreys a few weeks ago, not sure why he wasn't given a bench spot for Wales, far better option than Scott Williams imo. Got the handling skills of a playmaker no.12 and can crash it up as well as most due to his size, not bad defensively either. Still reckon him and Roberts could be a hell of a partnership in years to come.

There we have it...I'd been very very impressed with Beck every time I've seen him..indeed he looked like a Roberts of 09

Beck doesn't make the best bench option because he's an out and out 12, he doesn't cover any other positions. Scott Williams can cover the wing at a push, as well as either centre position. Beck is easily a better player though.

Beck still has some flaws to his game, namely in his defensive positioning, but he's a huge talent and imo would be more deserving of a spot than Marshall due to the level of his regional form over the last two seasons. It's been an untimely injury though, so he hasn't had any opportunities at international level since the summer.

Not sure about him for the Lions though. It took him a little while to fully step up to regional level after carving up the Prem for a while, and it looks like it'll take him a few more games at international level before he looks completely comfortable in all of his roles. The try he set-up with his first touch in international rugby showed what he's capable of though.

I dunno though, neither of our centres are out and out 12s either in my opinion, and both have played wing in the past (admittedly Jon Davies was there only because both Shane and Halfpenny got injured), plus Halfpenny could cover there too with Roberts/Hook covering 15. Just think he offers far more than Scott Williams, who I feel has a hell of a lot to learn too - just don't feel in safe hands with him as our main bench cover I suppose. He did do a job vs England last year, but his epic solo try only just about redeemed him for the awful butchery of a try earlier in the match.
EDIT; should probably make this reply somewhat on topic by saying I'd much prefer Beck to get a run in a Wales shirt than in the Lions, definitely not ready.

Hehe I think that's more believable than the trite they spout.

Surly not I'd probably have about 3 guys ahead of him, not that hes a really bad captain he just hasn't stepped up into the role with Ireland yet let alone Lions. Also hes not anywhere near to certain of spot in the 15/23.

More likely to see whether or not he'll actually tour, rather than whether or not he'll captain.

Gatland namechecked five guys who would be returning from injury soon that he's keeping an eye on to see how they return - Zebo, O'Connell, Bowe, Corbs and Lydiate...

Nothing British about Lions these days. Almost got more foreigners than French Top 14.

POChas already been told there a spot for him. Zebo is probably going to miss HEC QF by a week but his form and attitude could really lift people on tour. Bowe will probably loose battle against time but if fit deserves to go. Corbs is interesting as it hard to judge his thinking on front row options and Lydiate is good player but has hardest task as this is probably 1 of the most competitive selection choices on a Lions tour. There easily 13+ guys who could all argue valid points on why they should travel
