I know this is quite geeky but taking a look at stats for a second:

O'Gara is 31
He has 88 Caps for Ireland and 863 Points at 9.8 points a game

so.. maybe it's likely O'Gara will be playing for 2 to 3 more seasons.. Conservatively giving him 15 more games for ireland?

well that would bring him to 103 caps and at 9.8 points a game roughly 1013 points.. he pretty much has no chance of catching wilkinson who has 1032 for England:p

and it's pretty garunteed that Carter will beat him to 1000 and will also take over Wilkinson unless he is killed by plague..

so basically heres the question.. will O'Gara get 1000 points?

Don't think he will. According to some of the Irish on this board, he shouldn't be starting in the 6N. If his replacement proves to be good, then he'll be bench-warmer for the majority of his Ireland career.

I expect him to get 100 caps - but Im not so sure about 1000 points

I'd be suprised if him and bod don't get 100 caps .. I think the points will probably come down to his form really for selection etc

Didnt realise our Irish members picked the Irish team. ROG will get 100 caps and wont be dropped as he is the only 10 in Ireland who is remotely able to control a game.

Dunno about that Danny, Ian Keatley and the Humpmeister are looking stronger and stonger these days,

hmmm I agree with Humphreys but I think Keatley is just a good kicker.. and a decent go forward fly half

Still I think if you have to ask the question whos the best fly half..it's still O'Gara.. it's just good to see acceptable backup

Maybe he is at the moment but I don't really see him staying steady in the Number 10 slot for Ireland for 3 more years.
And Keatley's only 21 (or 22?), unsurprising that he can't control a game yet, give him another couple o years and he could be a really strong option.

one other question actually.. will Warwick be irish selectable when he gets citizanship?.. I don't think he's played for Australia

and also..it'd be a nice range of age.. Keatley at 21... Humphreys at 26 and O'Gara at 31.. a generation all differently aged.. very positive

Our Irish members call it as they see it. Humphrey's in better form if their word is anything to go by (it is).
Wouldn't be surprised to see Kidney pick ROG out of Munster bias though.

I don't remember anyone saying that Humphrey's shoudls start ahead of O'Gara.. he shouldn't..it's good to have a bench option and an option for the smaller games

I think he'll achieve both milestones. 100 caps is a given. He'll still be the top choice flyhalf in 2009 (until Humphreys and/or Keatley can prove they're up to the task on a regular basis) and at worst he'll be backup in 2010 and 2011. That's the opportunity to pick up anywhere from 25-30 caps. He should easily be able to manage to score another 140 or so points in that time frame.

Will he get them? Yes.
Will he deserve them? No.[/b]
I agree fully with this too. Since the 2003 World Cup O'Gara has had the Irish 10 shirt almost by default since there has been nobody else to compete for it. Humphreys was an injury prone spent force for a couple of years post-2003 and was never really an option any more despite some strong play for Ulster. Hopefully the emergence of new flyhalves in Connacht and Ulster will spur him on to a greater level of performance and will see an end to the type of dismal form he showed in the November 2008 tests.

Hmm stumbled back across this one today. Well it's looking less and less likely that he'll cross the 1000 point mark. I could see him getting the 100 caps what with subs appearances but to be honest if he is still first choice 10 this time next year I'll be severely disappointed.

I do think he will get the 100 tests, unconvinced by the 1000 points however. Or if he does as long as he does'nt overtake Neil Jenkins thats fine by me.
