Sorry ***le doesn't make it clear mainly for Irish users. Now that the "Golden Generation"'s last hurrah is over do you think we should experiment in the 6n and if so who do you think we should bring in?

2 I'd really like to see are McFadden at 12 and Hagan at 3.

I agree the Irish should experiment. They have 4 years to built a new team so now is the moment to see which combo's work and which aren't that good.

A gradual rebuilding is needed. We can't go all out and throw 6-7 guys inexperienced guys in there straight away, although we can't hold on to too many of the older guard either. We need to try and sort out what we want to do in the back row first of all. Ferris, Heaslip and O'Brien were great but our lack of an out and out 7 was evident against Sam Warburton and the Welsh. In the backline Murray and Sexton have to be the partnership moving forward. Kearney, Bowe, Earls provide a good base in the backline. I'd imagine BOD will stick arounf for another year or 2 while Darcy is probably finished. McFadden, Trimble, Felix Jones are all young enough aswell, and there are plenty of other young lads. It will be a gradual process but I'm relatively optimistic.

Bowe at 12?
Has he ever played there before?

I'd like to see a McFadden/Bowe 12/13 combination at some point

11 Gilroy (We need a speed merchant) Not faster than Pastor Arnie, I'm sure of it. Quick enough yeah, but not GAS GAS GAS. Conway's a better bet for that. Pick Gilroy because I have never seen a player able to beat his opposite man one on one so consistently. Its insane.

Luke McGrath (Maybe) Has he even made his pro debut yet? That said... I'm not completely arguing

If I were Ireland selector

20. Murray
21. ... iHumph/Keatley/Jackson
22. Earls/McFadden

Evolution, not revolution.

Kearney's been dropped for not passing. Heaslip needs a proper rest, but not sure of Ireland's depth in back-row anymore. Cave should play against Italy next 6N. Trimble stays ahead of Gilroy/Earls/Conway to bring some size to the proceedings, similarly Spence is used ahead of McFadden (who I think is a better wing than centre). Slightly unsure about using Spence there, long term Marshall should be the better option but right now Spence offers what is needed. But I don't want to see Spence blocking Marshall at Ulster.

I've gone for a youth full side that by the next world cup I would like to think could compete. Some real talent in places, with a few promising second centres. However we got some series positional weakness and depth issues. We really haven't got any locks, scrum halves or, as someone said, a 'genuine' open-side coming through.

I went with our back row that we had out against Wales that done so well against Oz and Italy. But a Warburton or Pocock like charter would be nice. I worry for our locks as PoC is already 31 and I couldn't think of a decent replacement for him. Really what 12, locks and scrum halves have we got coming through.

Bad times with a hint of promising talent.

I'm not convinced that Bowe has what it takes to become an international centre. The Ospreys have flirter with him at 13, but he's always ended up back on the wing. He's certainly not a 12 imo, as he simply doesn't have the distribution for the role. I think his best position is at wing, and for that reason I'd leave him there. He's a good finisher, and works best when he can roam the field picking when and where to enter the line.

I think Ireland would be better off introducing a young 12. Someone like McFadden who I've been impressed with when given a chance. The problem there is whether or not Leinster are going to give him a run of games first, or if they're gonna continue with a D'Arcy - O'Driscoll partnership for another year or two.

As for the backrow. I'm not sure anything needs to change there. It's all well and good saying 'we need a proper 7 like Warburton or Pocock', but at the end of the day there are probably only 4 opensides in the world at or around that level in Warburton, Pocock, McCaw and Brussow. It was obvious to many that Warburton was something special from a young age, is there genuinely someone like that coming through the Irish ranks? If people think Ryan could be decent, maybe he should be tried. Overall though, a backrow of Ferris, O'Brien and Heaslip is still very good, possibly not the most balanced with the three being quite similar, but if each can do their part then it could work very well. That backrow will still be better than most, and I'm sure it would come out on top against the Welsh backrow on occasion.

I don't see the point of retaining DOC, so bring someone in for him, but O'Connell still has plenty to give until someone genuinely overtaked him. There seems to be a few young hookers that Ireland can bring in, so get them in asap. Ross should and will continue at 3, he's a great tighthead and has a couple more years left in him probably. Just slowly introduce someone behind him and that should be ok.

Other than that, there should be youngsters coming in as backup and being slowly introduced. They should be learning their trade off the best and the likes of POC and BOD some of the best ever. Despite O'Gara's form being generally good lately, it's now time to give Sexton the shirt and stick with him.

Yep. Agree with everything. I think the Irish backrow is fine. We can't over think the Wales game. Up until that point our backrow had been totally dominant against every team. On the day Wales were dominant, on another day Ireland would be dominant. They're 2 good backrows and the fact that we were out-muscled in this match doesnt mean there's a real problem.

If we're looking for a genuine 7 coming through the ranks I've heard things about this young guy who just left school who's in the Leinster academy. Conor Gilsenan is his name.

We also don't have anyone coming through with real leadership qualities, Heaslip is the only one who stands out but he's too cocky and full of himself and was the only player not to up his game for the WC.
