What games are you playing?

is anyone here what I'd call (loosely) a "nostalgia gamer" ? I would play a bunch of games during my childhood during the 90's (best decade of games for me) and early 2000's, but then just quit. Just quit trying anything, or would play some 'new game' but like some disinterested adult just on trial of these new toys of the newer generation, half paying attention, completely without that enthusiasm of my earlier years.

The games I've played when I quit video games are the same old games I'd played when they were fresh. The newest game I've added to my serious gaming is Mortal Kombat Armageddon because I'm an MK fanatic. But Warcraft 2 and 3, Age of Kings (Conquerors), UMK3, Worms, Lemmings, Wolf3D (and Spear of Destiny), Doom 2, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake 3, first Mario Bros, Crash Bandicoot 1, 2, 3 - are the only games I play !

Got you bro. I was also a gamer kid. Red Alert, Age of Empires/Mythology, Dungeon Keepers, Doom, Worms and Lemmings like you, Medieval Total War, Medal of Honor, Theme Hospital etc. ... I had a PS1 and N64 and mainly got attached to the 64 - Mario Tennis/Kart/Party, Super Smash Bros, Pokemon Stadium (if only to play the gameboy pokemon on the big screen!), Goldeneye, Banjo Kazooie/Tooie, Diddy Kong Racing and others.

I then got attached to the first two Call of Duty games. After that, I got frustrated and quit gaming, playing a couple of 360 games here and there. Then I got Dragon Age Origins, and my love for gaming came back!

haha, cool. Like for the past 2 months, I've been playing the old Wolf 3D (and its sequel Spear of Destiny). They've got this direct version for Mac (no need for an emulator or wtvr...).

Golden Eye was huuuuuuuuuuuuuge on N64 for sure, never got the N64 but friends around me were going mad on that. It was the UMK3 era, so I was way too busy learning 'Brutality' finishing moves and the N64 just flew over my head...wii's good though. I like new games to not change the fundamental gameplay and fun elements of a big franchise game, only enhance it with new things here and there and better graphics but nothing too fancy. The New Super Mario for wii (yeh, that's the latest game I've played...not Armageddon) was perfect. And I never get bored with games I really like, I must've finished it entirely like 20 times or somethin.......I'll wait for like 2-3 months and finish it all over again : p

Been spending time on EA's releases, Madden 25, Fifa 14 and NHL 14. All to be expected, similar sort of fare but with enough improvements to make them aall great to play. Also had a quick go on the Battlefeild 4 Beta, a great looking and great sounding game even though I suck at it.

Beat both the Metro's and Final Fantasy 7, loved them all thoroughly going to continue clearing some older games out of my backlog.

Caved in and bought Battlefield 4.
Just installing it now - annoyingly it doesn't allow install to USB harddrives, so I've had to delete all my BF3 stuff from my hard drive (it was taking up 11gb of space!) to install it.

If it's anything like BF3 it's going to take about an hour until I can actually play it - the series always has the biggest updates to download whenever you want to have a quick game.

Been really liking AC:4BF the experience of getting into an intense naval battle then seamlessly swigging across to the other ship can be pretty special at times.

I've gone down the COD route again. It suits my playing style and the online is way less chaotic

I'm weird in that I really like COD single player, but despise the online.
I absolutely loved online on the original Modern Warfare - sunk a ridiculous amount of hours into it, but since then I've not liked it. I'd say COD online is far more chaotic, due to the size of the maps.

I see what you mean. Not helped that Im bad at it, get frustrated and rage quit

I remember when it felt as if the first COD was chaotic after coming from Medal of Honor Allied Assault. COD 1 was great though, I miss that game.

2, 3 were lesser re-hashings of the first for me, but still pretty playable. Modern Warfare was fun for a while, but was frustratingly chaotic and I gave in.

Play TF2 now instead.

It's agonising reading gaming forums and seeing Tanks with the PS4. I've got a countdown timer on my phone and everything.

Right now, I'm playing XCOM, TLOU, and Hitman Absolution on PS3.

Any good? I'm a huge BF3 fan but really didn't like the general feel of the BF4 beta so undecided whether to give it a shot or not

I'm enjoying it.
Not massively different from BF3 but the new maps are a welcome change.
Annoyingly they've changed the spot button from select to right bumber so I keep opening the battlelog mid match - especially annoying if the person you're trying to spot turns around and starts gunning you

Only played about an hours online and 2 single player, so not really scratched the surface (e.g. not unlocked any guns on online yet )

3 days after and Im done with COD. A combo of me being awful at it (I always get flanked and shot in the back) and its full of MLG wannabe tryhards who brag on chat then send obscene messages informing me how bad I am. So I'm going to plough through the campaign then trade it in for BF4

Right, well that's the end of my foray into the BF4 single player.
I was quite enjoying it - it was nothing new, by a long shot, but a decent enough FPS, but I got into a car and they say "it'll be a long drive, get some shut eye" and the screen went black and it's just playing driving noises in the background. The games not crashed as I can still pause, and if move the analogue stick the loading symbol in the corner moves a a bit, so the games still there. I've left it going for about 5 mins now, and no change.
It did this last night, so I turned it off, tried again now...exactly the same.

I've got no interest in playing through to get back to this point, so I guess that's time!

Candy Crush! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, had to be said.

The Last of Us; Naughty Dog has done it again. Only halfway through it and it's been awesome so far; cannot wait for the next 50% of the game. Got it 2nd hand as well so feels even better playing it knowing have not paid full price for this gem of a game.

Not playing as I dont own a PS3 but watching a walkthrough series of The Last Of Us. I think this would be the only game I'd ever consider switching consoles for.

It looks and sounds incredible and has a smooth gameplay style and the characters and they way theyre voiced make you actually care about what happens to them in game.

Just finished the game; all I can say is the game is: Stunning; from the gameplay, graphics to the emotional bond you develop with the characters. If you can pick up a 2nd hand PS3 with this game then you won't regret it.

I played it on normal and I'm going back to play it on Hard. I'm not a games player but because of the rave reviews I bit the dust and got it. It got 10/10 from Edge magazine and they've only given out 16 10s in their history; so that's telling you something.

If you enjoy this game you'll also love the Uncharted series, which was made by the same developers Naughty Dog. Whereas Uncharted is an adrenalin rush, the Last of Us is the more complete game.

Back into Skyrim on the PC. I only just got into the whole modding aspect of it and it's damn amazing. It's endless what you can do with this game. And yes that's why I'm up at 5 am. Gona sleep now though and after xmas I'm going to enjoy this newly modded world woohooo!
