This morning I saw this weird Twitter message posted by the president of the Dutch Rugby Union:

"A possible rugby fixture between bokken and baabaas in Amsterdam this year is becoming closer and closer."

Just a publicity stunt or can their be any validity in this message? I'm opting for stunt. Wouldn't know why though.

Quite possibly can see Barbarians playing, they often play 3rd tier nations. The Boks on the other hand...Don't know why the Dutch would want to play the Boks. They'd get slaughtered and it'd harm their rugby.

The way I read it, it's not about a match against the Dutch team, it's about Boks vs. BaaBaas in Amsterdam.

Could happen of course, I'm sure that if the Barbarians team would exist of enough players from the Home Nations and / or France enough supporters would come over to visit for the weekend.

Not neccessarilly. In 2007 Belgium played Argentina. It was a Belgium XV included former French international players. Sure, Argentina got a comfortable win but the occassion was deemed positive.

But I'd imagine that the Springboks would tear a fully Belgium team apart. Consider that South Africa beat Namibia 87-0, and Namibia qualified for the RWC, I'd expect at least a 100 points blow out. Even a 3rd XV would be enough.

I think I did read it wrong however, as others have mentioned I'd expect it to be BaaBaa's v Springboks in Amsterdam.
