We Need To Talk About Wasps

Not too surprising on either count after Worcester's owners said they won't be pursuing it, but now official:
Wasps in the Championship next season, Worcester not:

Be interesting to see when Wasps start recruiting/announce what squad numbers they've actually got on the books atm
If we are sensible, it will be pick up some strong champ players are rely on loans. Bit like we are Marshall, give lads who need first team game time opportunities. Also we might see some of our academy lads return maybe.

Didn't the RFU continue funding your academy? If so, you may get it straight back

Yeah they did. It's those senior academy lads, the ones I am wondering about. Clearly we won't get the likes of Ma'asi White, Fisilau etc back but there are a few I hope could return

Do you think you'll sign back some of the squad-level players you had before?
I could see Gaskell returning from Japan - did Rob Miller land anywhere else?

I noticed that Joe Simpson is playing for his old school boy club in something like Level 7 atm, I still think he might crop up as coach/player-coach

Yeah maybe, depends on the size of the budget and the whether the financial backing was given. I could see that players like Ben Morris, Miller, Gaskell, Spink, B Harris, T Cruse, etc return. Lads who families live in area.

I'd also be keen to see likes of Nearchou, Curran, Brown, Tunney, Cripps, Vukasinovic, Will Haydon Wood, Jude Williams, Bacon, florenstein, Mehson, Simmonds, Monye, Eckersley and hopefully a few more might return. Some of the u18 lads were incredibly
Talented like Rokodrava but went to ealing

Not sure they will be so quick to return. If they are at say Ealing, why would they risk returning to a still pretty unstable club? Wasps don't even have a ground yet. They are still very much a franchise but not a premiership one anymore. Really don't know what this course of action is going to achieve

Very very happy Wasps are back but we're keeping Fisilau! No but joking aside i hope you get some players back and players who want to are allowed to go by their new club.

Sorry meant to say only the young lad Rokodrava went to Ealing on a long term contract. The other people mentioned for most part are on short term contracts i believe elsewhere.

Very true 4 promising young players will help us alot with all our leavers at the end of the season. But obviously its harsh for Wasps.

ahh well, its our own fault sadly, we developed too many good players which everyone wants (plus the whole financial doom). Otherwise we would thrash you and will the prem every year.....

If we do get back to the prem I would like to hope reassigning J Willis was on the cards, I recall him saying he was passionate about Wasps and let's face it you need a few established players to cement things, obviously that depends how long deals he signs between now and then (assuming it happens) this just feels like the most positive news we have had recently.

Will be interesting to see if we loan players in, especially from likes of Leicester/Saints due to geography. The training facilities we have are second to none and most would get first team rugby so wouldn't surprise me as good location.

Alliteration over Allegiance

Be interesting to see what happens with academies now - Wasps can't keep their Coventry area catchment zone now, surely?
Do they just automatically take over Worcester's?
They already pinched some of Worcester's catchment zone when they first moved to Cov
Does their old zone get distributed back between Saints and Tigers?

Is a Worcester wasps merger the best thing for both clubs if they actually want to be a professional club again?

Such sad news all of this.

So don't believe there will be a merger. Neither fan base would be keen. Im really not sure what the solution is... i don't think we will see either back in the prem any time soon. Wasps more likely than any others but with the state of other prem teams currently (Leicester and Exeter needing additional funding) and likes of (Falcons and Irish being heavily debt ladened) i can see a dramatic change to prem rugby.

I don't see that happening. Far too many risks and the money in rugby just isn't going to convince anyone.
