Wallabies Back-line?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Sebastian V @ Sep 26 2009, 03:11 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div>
As mentioned before i always thought Turner is sometimes slow off the start. Others say he is extremely quick off the start. Sometimes his speed comes out of nowhere like when he nearly scored the try against the boks, other times he seems average. a speedster would be nice but I just dont know about him...[/b]

I made the same assessment of turner. he's great when he gets the ball on the fly but when he's flat footed that first 10-20m is pretty slow and add poor agility and slow foot work makes him pretty easy for defences to target. AAC is similar but he has better footwork and better upper body strength and leg drive to keep the ball moving forward.
We probably havent been able to utilize turners best asset due to our inability to consistantly attack from our scrums and lineouts this year.

Anyone else been watching the Heineken Cup?

Anybody who suggests Mark Gasnier as a future Wallaby needs to shoot themselves in the face...

He's awful...

What position was he playing? Do you have a link of any highlights?

He's been playing on the wing...

Yesterday against Bath he just looked completely lost... hopeless in defence... no better in attack...

He shifted into outside centre for some of the match and was outplayed by Matt Carraro... a guy that wasn't good enough to make the Brumbies and Waratahs starting XV...

What the hell is Stade Francais still doing with Gasnier??

I thought they would have kicked him out with McKenzie.

I don't want to give him time, he's had his chance move him along.[/b]

Im sorry mate but australia doesn't have the depth to write off 21 year old players with the talent Cooper has.

Yeah, if i were Robbie Deans, my priorities would be;

*Switching Giteau and Barnes. 2nd 5 is a better position to attack from, 1st 5 has more of an emphasis on distribution. Matt Giteau is a far better attacker, Barnes is a better distributer. Seems like a no brainer to be honest. Giteau was absolutely lethal playing at 2nd 5 early in his career, hes only been great at 1st 5. If Barnes is really feeling the pressure in a particular facet they can always switch for a couple of plays.

*Digby needs to be there. Mortlocks been great but hes about 150 and its finally starting to show. Digby has so much natural talent its scary, bring him in the team, as a wing to get used to the buisness like Mortock did, then move into centre. He should be Australias answer to Umaga by 2015.

*JOC should be persisted with. He was shiiite against NZ, but you have to keep him there. At fullback. Put pressure on his S14 coach to give him gametime at the back. Hes a better 2nd 5 but not better then Giteau or Barnes, Hes too good to leave out of the squad and has the raw skills for fullback.

*Kingi should be kept in mind. The halfback stocks in Australia aren't that great. Genias a class act but i dont think hes extraordinary and besides him things are grim. Kingi is a gamebreaker. Would be the ultimate gun impact player and would overtake Genia by 2015.

*Quade Cooper and Kurtley Beale should not be cast out. Spend the yearly "find a player in the NRL fund" on training up Beale and Cooper. Barnes is solid, but sometimes slow and steady doesnt win the race. If play is stagnant and you just cant break the line (like the ABs against france in 2007..), put Giteau into 1st and one of these freaks into 2nd. I know they suck when they are off, but when they are on its magic. They could really blast a game right open from the bench.

*AAC looks like Mr Fix-it on the bench to me. Great injury replacement anywhere on the field.[/b]

YES YES YES YES

*Wings are solid, but i think they need one solid winger and one "if you give me the ball im going to tear this **** up" winger. I.e, Mark Gasnier. Hes was one of the only mungos i saw playing with a brain. And he could also "tear this **** up".[/b]

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
