(Very) early thoughts on the 2017 Lions

Yeh the only two scots who could feel genuinely unlucky if they where to be left out are Seymour and Hogg.

Watson talented but prob behind more experienced players.
J.Gray real class act but we have huge depht at locks and some outstanding players.
Huw Jones same as above.

TBH would rather have Ringrose or Jones over T'eo.

I could live with that squad, too.
Jon Davies going is a bit of a **** take, but as far as gatland decisions go that squad is decent.

I really hope he doesn't go ... Ringrose would be a better prospect.

Huw Jones is out after exploding his ankle doing a really unnecessary side step during the 6N

The Scots hardly deserve places as well (in relation to Wales) after their capitulation against England. They aren't proven away from home.

Sinice the start the bulk should be made of English and Irish with peppering of other nations.

As for the squad if thats it I'd take it. Bit **** Nowell doesn't go and Hartley does (might give England a reason to drop him if George wasn't going as well).

Don't like Warburton as Captain but it's not a shocking decision.

You're right - the capitulation against England will probably cost one or two Scots a place i.e. Watson and Dunbar who both had a very fine tournament that game apart. It's unfortunate when players pay a big price for one poor game which makes me wonder why Hartley will be going after his horror show against Italy. Guess he benefits from the lack of competition at hooker.

Agree on Nowell. Love his ability to shrug off tackles and I would have taken him ahead of Watson.

BBC reporting JJ and Launchbury "unlikely" to make the squad:(.

Very very poor if this is true. Both should be locked in.

Wait wait wait...this must be some sick ****ing joke... Joe Launchbury unlikely to make the lions?

The caveat in the article Being:

Gatland and his coaches will meet for a final selection meeting on Tuesday, with Lions sources insisting nothing is yet set in stone.

But it's not a good sign for these two. Looks like Kruis and Lawes have jumped ahead of him. Reading between the lines Henderson may also be in front of Joe as he can cover 6.

Article also mentions Ford is unlikely as well, which is slightly depressing if it means Biggar goes. Would personally prefer Russell over Biggar.

As regards Kruis how exactly do you jump anywhere when you're not even playing?

That would be hugely tough on Launch. But some top class locks were always going to miss out and I s'pose he did only start the season as a second choice for Eng. But if 6N form counts for anything he should be on the plane.

Inexplicable in the case of JJ. Fast feet and vision are more likely to unlock the ABs than big biceps.

That's assuming the story's true. At this stage I guess it probably is.

I can understand Launch missing out solely because there's so many good 2nd rows knocking about there was always going to be some hard calls to make.

An on form JJ is pretty comfortably the best 13 available, though. If he misses out then it's cray

JDavies going ahead of JJ is very hard to comprehend. If Biggar goes too at the expense of Russell and Ford it'll be an absolute scandal.

If it's not set in stone yet then perhaps Gatland and co are agonising over a last minute marginal call between Daly and Shane Williams.

Yep this.

JJ was head and shoulders the best 13 in the comp.
If T'eo goes instead of him the. It's madness.
