Ulster aren't winning the egg and spoon race at the local primary school's sports day this year, even with acclaimed world beater Stephen Donald at 10. Would make more sense to play one of their younger guys or at least take a chance on someone IQ for the rest of the season. If they need to make a more permanent signing next year then fair enough. I'd have to say Giteau might be worth a look though. He could help develop their tens a bit, and can probably still do a job. I think a veteran who helped build a winning culture in a once mercenary club like him could shake things up a bit there as well.
Not particularly surprised they couldn't get anyone from the provinces though. Byrne is playing a lot of rugby, is in good form, playing for a team with trophy ambitions, and has a shot at Irish honors even as second choice. Marsh would be no huge upgrade on McPhillips. Meanwhile at Munster, Johnston is finally back from injury, remains a relatively unknown quantity, has had his career stalled hugely and finally has a chance to put his hand up. I'd imagine he also wouldn't want to play the number of minutes Lealifano had to as well. J.J has already moved to a poor team for 'game time' once already to the detriment of his career. Connacht have no one to spare really, unless Crosbie wants to achieve the goal of spending time at all four provinces.
