Transfers 2015/16

Uns uns uns! Fair play to the IRFU on this one for identifying that Leinster swill like Madigan and Moore are disposable but our majestic sleek Wündermenschen need to be retained. Murray in the same stroke was huge, although I suppose they were never likely to let him leave.

Murray was never going.
Earls wasn't after cash but length and thankfully he got it.

I can't wrap my head around how family matters can be behind moving abroad and thus away from the support of family while raising youngsters....?

Or does Keith Earls have family or does the wife's family live in the London area?

He's 28/29 years old, has a young family and his injury track record isn't great. He wanted a long term deal I imagine so that he had security in case of injury.

That is a pretty tenuous link to family matters.

Weighing up 2yrs @ €X vs. 3yrs @ €Y == money (financial security)

Outstanding agent work is what that was, although I think he's certainly worth it. Seemed like a pretty viable deal for Earls though. If I were in his shoes I'd be out the door quicker than you could say injury prone.

Money doesn't play a factor in family matters? Interesting.........

He's at the stage of his career where this is his last big contract. Surely financial security and family matters are inextricably linked. Rugby players aren't so highly paid that they can afford not to work when their careers are over.

While money does matter to family life, when I hear people saying moving for family reasons I think "Closer to family/girlfriend/girlfriend's new job", not "Make more money for them", which generally falls under moving for money.

In other news, General Franco van der Merwe has signed for another year at Ulster. Mixed feelings about that one but at the very least a decent player in the squad next year.

Lads. Earls never said family matters. I know 100% he just pointed out it was his last big contract. So he wanted 3 years. So his next contract will be a provincial contract so like he will take a big drop. So he wanted it to be in 3 years as opposed to 2. Anyone who knows IRFU knows the story.

Its all over the media as family matters.

Now that could be agent-speak.

When you are saying you are concerned about family matters when your focussed primarily on how much money your getting over the length of contract the link is tenuous.

Really, you are concerned about money/financial security. Family matters is a secondary link to that.

And every media outlet got it from the Independent. Nobody else. I know the facts.

Regards family matters length matters over cash. A longer deal allows planning for kids going to school, setting up family home for life and other areas.

Judging by Saturday; just the knowledge that he's moving north seems to have helped his game massively - his best performance in 16 months
