Transfers 2015/16

Victor Matfield to Northampton according to planet rugby is a done deal.

And bad news for us Andy Goode has retired

Had to come up with something special after losing Manoa. Matfield will do nicely.

Thats a nice little intro for Mujati. How is he in any case? I followed ~50% of Racing's games but didn't notice him at all.

Always did feel the WP/Stormers and Bokke missed him all those years he was at Saints and we had to make do with John Smit (a hooker) Coenie Oosthuizen (a LH) and an on and off-form Jannie du Plessis for the Bokke and I can't even remember (thankfully) who for WP before the rise of Malherbe and now Koch.

Agree with that completely, his vlogging channel is superb.

Don't really follow French club rugby massively, but he didn't seem to have a good time. Form struggled which led to him dropping down the pecking order and not getting enough game time to fix his form.
He said in one of his vlogs he was falling out of love with the game, which is why he left racing early - change of scenery/fresh start.

I having followed his vlog for a while but I agree it was a good watch and that he seemed like a really nice, interesting bloke. My impression the last time I did watch was that he was more concerned with being a bodybuilder than a rugby player! I wonder if he regrets leaving Northampton, he seemed really happy when me was there.

Todd Clever
NTT Shining Arcs --> Newcastle Falcons

We don't make bad signings, but they're always completely weird (read: obscure and therefore cheap).

That could be quite a smart move, hasn't he just fallen out with his national coach and therefore won't be missing any games for internationals ... ?

Don't remember what for- missing training sessions I thinkkk- but yes, he's not in the USA world cup squad. Looking forward to seeing him play.

"On July 19, 2015, one day after a loss to Samoa in the Pacific Nations Cup, USA Rugby announced that Todd Clever was released from the Eagles roster due to what was referred to as "multiple squad conduct violations."" according to wikipedia.

Unless he turns out to be an idiot at Falcons too.

Huge boost to the Stormers. Definitely a man in a very special league along with Joe Schmidt, Graham Henry and Jake White in terms of his understanding of the game. He is able to tailor his approach to suit whatever culture he's immersed in, and that's what makes him special.

I was listening to him speak recently and he had given a mantra to the Japanese to have samurai eyes and ninja bodies. In other words, he always wanted his players to look for opportunities to kill the opposition, even if the team were 1 meter from their own goal line. If an attacking opportunity was on, he expected his team to go for it, don't be conservative, because that's how the Japanese thrived is by attacking and keeping the ball in hand. The ninja bodies was all about acting quickly and with precision. He got Japan to play to their strengths - which is attacking rugby. With the Springboks he helped them to play to theirs as well which is to batter the opposition in defense.

I thought the Stormers underwhelmed this year, but because of the conference system, because they managed to still plug out about 10 wins, and because they do actually have a lot of talented players - they managed to finish 3rd. Imagine what they could do with arguably the most intelligent coach in the game. For me, a guy like Eddie can be the difference between advancing to the final and capitulating at Newlands against the Brumbies in the qualifiers. Extremely well rounded, maybe more than anyone. Proven track record time and time again that he understands his environment, his team and can adapt to that.
