Transfers 2015/16

Clegg's main problem for Quins, if my memory serves me well, was his goal kicking. He was quite a tidy player ball in hand (although inconsistent and Quins were at their pomp then) but a lot of the time Clegg was involved, Quins started missing easy points. Don't know if that's still the case.

That and I didn't rate his defense.

I mean any player who loses out to Ben 'the Butcher' Botica must have some flaws.

he should have moved to 15 when he left age grade.

Pau in the top 14 have made some amazing signings for their first season, hope it pays off for them..

it was necessary as their stay would be very short lived without a influx of excellent players but its another tough season so we will have to wait and see although we have them pre season in Montpellier on the 14th Aug so we should get an insight into their capabilities, and then we are away for the TOP 14 second week 29th Aug so i hope they are ready as we are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How lucky they are to join Coughlan. The man is the ultimate pro and well Pau really will have a dogged team. I think they will survive ok. A safe mid table.

James Short --> Exeter Chiefs

Good signing for them liked Short cause when he played he looked dangerous never gave him enough game time.

Peter Grant to the Western Force.

Though I don't think it's a brilliant signing for the Force I have to admit I miss Grant for us. His not a test player but Catrakilis and Coleman havn't be able to fill his shoes. Hope we give Du Plessis and/or Du Preez good chances to make the WP/Stormers jersey theirs.

I think the Force would've done better signing a more 'game managment' type 10 rather than the aptly nicknamed Bash.

Interesting fact, was just looking at the winning 2007 SA team for the WC Final in Paris, and we have 5 players or coach who are here or arriving in the not too distant future at Montpellier, plus Wynand Olivier from last season.
can't be many teams that have so many players from 8 years ago playing all in the same team with WC winners medals. Before anyone goes jumping i know not all played in the final but they were on the team sheet (23) plus Jake White.
i was in the dressing room for the 2007 SA v USA game in Montpellier sitting between Os du Rant and John Smit (doping control) and 8 years later reworking with them all again in a completely different aspect. ( communication)
Funny old world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Pierre Spies who would've been involved had it not been for his illness!

Having a look at that team myself it seems only 6 of those players still play their trade in SA, 4 of them (and Jake White until recently) with the Sharks (though the two Du Plessis bro's you've obviously counted).

Not 8 years ago obviously but the NZ teams still have a load of players with RWC medals and then there is Toulon with Bakkies, Juan, Habana and until last year Rossouw.

But, yeah, Montpellier certainly in it with the leaders for a roster stacked with RWC medals. I count the Crusaders as clear leaders though.

I think the fact that it is 2007 is fairly incredible, 2011 is only 4 years ago and much to be expected, but 8 years and still playing top notch rugby i take my hat of to these guys, already looking forward to our season as i have always got on very well with all our Sud Affs. So going into the wildest of dreams if France win the WC add another 3 to the total FTD, Fulgence, and Nico Mass, wildest dreams i repeat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Daniel Brooks to Bristol on a 4 month deal to provide 10 cover

Mathew Luamanu to Harlequins.

I don't know how he has been playing since leaving New Zealand. But it was ridiculous that he didn't become a star for the Blues over some pretty unexceptional players. I can't think of any forward I have seen who has been as powerful at crossing over the line. It seemed his only downside was his work ethic. He once finished as the highest try scorer in the NPC, for North Harbour. Still young enough that he could become a star yet again.

Hasn't crossed my attention as a Treviso player *but* that sort of power will have every Quins fan interested. The ***le winning Quins side had some very powerful units in Johnston, Kohn, Fa'asavalu, Easter and JTH (before getting crap) and it's not really a surprise that losing most of those players has coincided with them being a bit poo. If he can live up to your description, think he could spend a lot of time in the 23.

Here was his highlights of the ITM Cup 2011. 1:49 was a reasonably typical Luamanu break.

He looks like a very smart acquisition, him- Robshaw - Clifford are going to be a very dangerous back row to face.

Think that's what COS is saying: "Mat's sheer size, power and footballing ability will provide a very interesting challenge to teams in the Aviva Premiership and in Europe and we look forward to working with a player whose best years can still be ahead of him."
