Transfers 2012/13

Rumour was correct.

Bristol Rugby have bolstered their backline options with the addition of Doncaster Knights full-back David McIlwaine.

The 22 year-old, who is equally adept on the wing, came through the ranks at Ulster, representing Ireland at U18 and U19 level.

And there will be more signings revealed as we go through today. Don't know if they are existing players staying or new recruits

10AM edit: Adrian Jarvis returns. Not to chuffed with that one if I'm totally honest.

11AM edit: Exeter centre Bryan Rennie signs. Dont know much about him, adds depth to our backline. Would like a forward to be announced next. More at 12

Don't blame you, an average player who has been the fly half for three relegated teams (Harlequins 2005, Bristol 2009, Leeds 2011)

I saw him play for London Irish against Edinburgh this season, he was pretty poor to be honest

the London Irish fans seem to be ecstatic losing him as well

do you think he will start ahead of the fly halves you've already got Selim Niai?

Also got Bruce Douglas from Wuss.

As for Jarvis I think he will play purely on his experience if not talent. I think Jones and James are far more exciting options but are pretty much untried at this level

Leinster make two new signings:
http://www.leinsterrugby.ie/newsroom/9880.php

the province can announce two-year deals with two Irish qualified forwards who will link up with the province this summer; 25-year-old tight-head prop Michael Bent who has signed a deal from Super 15 franchise the Hurricanes and 24-year-old second row Tom Denton who has signed from Leeds Carnegie.

legit, been pretty much a known transfer for some weeks now

don't know why Biarritz want Broster though, seems quite a drop off Sylvain Marconnet who he is replacing

Never been able to understand Biarritz's recruitment policy......they have not had a 10 or at least one they can trust in their squad for years but have just signed a Leinster cast off who has played only one game this year? The backs they have signed recently have been one or two game wonders....e.g. Caprice, Bolakaro, Burouto, Erinle, Bond, Baby being just some of them........ Marconnet can only manage half a match or less and was signed for his final two years of rugby primarily only as cover for Barcella (at RWC) but Barcella has been injured for two years (any coincidence that Marconnet has taken a franchise for Serge's shops!). I do not know Broster or the Leinster 10 but let us say, I await their arrival (and Aled Brew's) with a degree of scepticism and fear we may have another tough season ahead with the management we have!!

I agree with you there, Ben Broster, Matt Berquist and Aled Brew are hardly inspiring signings who will turn the team around

I can see them struggling again next season in the Top 14, so far they've barely improved their squad at all for next season if at all

they are being carried by Harinordoquy and Yachvili and they are both in their thirties now and may start to decline in the next couple of seasons

What is it with Biarritz and relying on average British players nowadays?

Recruited players usually = C.H.E.A.P!!!! Imanol is not the player he was either and his breaks for a rest and TV exposure are getting longer!! BO are just the same team without him but Yach..........now there is a total necessity and playing better than he ever has!!

Chris Paterson has announced his retirement from all rugby

Mike Blair's deal with Perpignan has fallen through

Setaimata Sa has signed for London Irish from Catalans Dragons.
Gutted to see him leave. Will be interesting to see how goes in Union as he won't have played it since he was a kid.
He's pretty fast and very strong with a good offload, though, but will obviously take a while to adjust to Union.

D'you want me to tell you how he's gonna go? ;)

Probably fairly poorly, to be fair.
He'll do alright on the crash ball and the odd offload, but he's not got the most well rounded game in league so I can't see him doing that well at Union.

is it coincidence or do a large proportion of Rugby League players have stuff like this on their Wikipedia page?

On 30 August 2009, Setaimata Sa was charged with assault, resisting arrest, malicious damage and failure to leave a licenced premises, after a drunken episode in a Sydney hotel.

from what I can tell nearly every Australian based Rugby League player has some sort of drinking incident on record,

it's no wonder these two were once mentioned as possibly moving to Rugby League
