The Ulster Thread

Bell wanted out anyway, if you believe the talk. Apparently he wanted to go to Glaws last year and was blocked by a certain ex-Ulster supremo.

I'm sure they'll have a good laugh about that together.

Jonny Bell is leaving Ulster at the end of the season for, yes, you guessed it, Gloucester rugby. Swear to god if I hear that clubs name one more ****ing time.

This is a big loss, our defence has always been a strong point of our game (hard saying that after Toulon). I was actually taught P.E by Bell in my early years at CCB, very nice guy. Admittedly I haven't heard of the replacement - can anyone shed some light on him? Is he decent?
What if you see the crest?

:p

Dunno whether to be excited or not? Do all Ulster fans rate him?

Well rated. I know we've had a few discussions about the usefulness of raw stats, but the quickest way to see why is to look up the tables from last season and season before that and look at Points Conceded...

Whilst it is a pity to lose a good defence coach, I am pleased to see that Ulster have travelled further than Lisburn in search of a replacement!

This would strike me as having the hand of Kiss in it which might not necessarily be a bad thing - Ulster top positions getting hoarded by the old boys club isn't good long term.

Ulster should take a look at the work one of their former coaches and legends of the province is doing in France. Since leaving Ulster, Jeremy Davidson led Aurillac with the 14th budget from 16 to the semi finals playoffs of ProD2 in 2013, and now has them 4th in the league this season and on track for the playoffs again ahead of considerably better funded sides like Biarritz. Reportedly he has a new 5 year deal on the table from Aurillac and offers to join the staff at Clermont or Lyon.

Is there any particular reason that neither Taggart nor Joyce has been used (at least that I can rmember) this season considering the lack of depth in the backrow?

At least Dow is looking a good prospect.

Gilroy really making a claim for inclusion in the Ireland squad here. He's been in fantastic form, his step is unbelievable.

In other news, Humphreys is complete ****e.

Edit: very good team try there scored by Gilroy, Scholes did extremely well

Jesus our blocking lines are so blatant. Gilroy looks a cut above today, iHumph is a fart in a frilly frock.

To answer BG8's question from ages back - none known of, just looks like the coaches don't rate them.

I've never seen more aimless kicking in my life. Humphreys also needs to realise we aren't playing touch rugby..

Humphreys needs to go back to London Irish and we need to fast forwards to Less Kiss getting here.

Incredible that Ulster are still firmly in this

Discipline is just shocking. It's painful watching this team play, Ulster used to be one of the best teams to watch..

What a shock, we're so much better as soon as Humphreys goes off!

Edit: Maybe speaking a bit too soon..

Sam Arnold the only one who looked the least bit dangerous at the end there. Discipline and general handling were atrocious for Ulster. So annoying to watch as an Irish supporter. Actually I'm pretty fed up with pro 12 rugby. It's s***.

Any word on Olding yet? I'm getting very worried about him ever getting anywhere near to fufilling his potential.

big knee injury is what it looked like
i think its the same knee as last time, was as the game happened just in front of me he was in considerable pain.
i imagine its a long layoff wont play till next season (if he plays the start of next season)

Is he built for Pro Rugby?

Starting to remind me of someone like Barry Murphy. He was a beautiful skillful player but physically his body just refused to adapt.

Although at times I thought same about Earls and Luke Fitz.

The great Ulster knee curse continues - thank **** that Ulster are very well covered in Olding's positions.
