The Ukraine War thread

"Any appearance by armed forces under some other flag does not change anything. It is of course completely unacceptable,"

So Russians are completely devoid of irony too.

I think a lot of this shite will be for domestic consumption in both Russia and the US to help Trump & Putin and to make Europe look like a weak non-player with a view to influencing the upcoming elections.

I also highly get the feeling that the summit in Saudi was not just about Ukraine and probably was the start of a geo political carving up with other global things on the agenda.

I don't think Trump thinks much on a geopolitical scale, I wouldn't be surprised to find that, if you drill down into his actions, making money for himself or giving himself more control is at the core of pretty much everything he does. He's too thick to grasp any of the broader geo-political implications.

Don't forget "petty vengeance"

I generally agree but it could be relatively simple stuff like America making concessions re. Ukraine in exchange for Russia cooling off it's relations with Iran which will help Israel.

Neither of those benefit Trump personally. Trumps policy on Gaza is to suddenly open up a ton a real estate with no pesky brown people nearby that Israel would happily want to see developed. Guess who would financially benefit. Likewise I think there is an aspect to Putin's dealings with Trump that is not public that makes Trump friendly with him. I think Putin is dangling a carrot on front of Trump for some wholly corrupt enterprise that will enrich Trump in Russia (Trump already had plans in Russia before everything kicked off).

Israel wants Iran to back off and stop funding Hamas, Hezbollah etc so that it can crack on with it's expansionist policy. Russia leaning on an already isolated Iran would help with this. Yes Trump sees Gaza as a big real estate deal but I think he and Netanyahu's administration have been in cahoots for ages. Netanyahu's actions was an election gift to Trump.

I question if Zelensky really wants the war to end? He is getting so much in foreign aid, over $30 billion in financial aid pretty much no questions asked and due to the constant continuations of martial law, is able to outlaw political parties and prevent any elections which ensures that he stays in power. His popularity has fallen, from 90% at the start of the war to about 55% currently and does not have a majority of support in the Eastern regions where the war has impacted the people the most as well as a greater percentage of ethnic Russians who are in favor of re-uniting those areas with Russia. He also is faced with polls that show that about 40% of people in Ukraine do not trust him.

I have never heard him talk about or mention a realistic end game to what has become a World War 1 style stalemate. He just keeps asking for more and more.

Trump calls Zelenskyy a 'dictator without elections'

We have more detail on Donald Trump's Truth Social post:

Trump called Zelenskyy a "dictator without elections" after the Ukrainian leader earlier on Wednesday accused Trump of being trapped in a "disinformation bubble."

Zelenskyy 'better move fast' or he won't have a country left - Trump

In a Truth Social post Donald Trump wrote Ukraine's Zelenskyy "better move fast" or he won't have a country left. Trump added that Zelenskyy had "done a terrible job" and called him a dictator "without elections".

With friends like these...

Absolutely ridiculous post, stop drinking the Fox News kool-aid

Well, depends which side of the border.

The useless politicans in Stormont would set up loads of "task-forces" and "reviews", maybe even "enquiries". The Russians might be in danger of being bored to death.
Whereas those in the Dail would likely try to drown them in bullshit coming from tribunals.

Either way, totally got it covered.

[Realistically, they'd have to get/let a 3rd party intervene on their behalf - which circles us back to the crux of the matter - political will.]
Would love for Russia to invade us only to see what shoes Simon Harris wears to the office that day....

This halfwit led our country.

I question your sanity. Zelensky didn't ask for this and of course he wants the war to end, he simply doesn't want Russia to be rewarded for the second blatantly land-grab they have engaged in against Ukraine in a decade, or do you think might makes right and Putin is allowed to simply waltz into a neighbour and annex them? What Zelensky wants is a return to the pre-war conditions at least and a return to pre-Crimean annexation preferably. He also seems to want Russia and the USA to adhere to the treaty they signed when Ukraine gave up their nuclear arsenal in exchange for Russia guaranteeing they would respect Ukraine's territorial integrity and the USA offering security.

You honestly want to attack Zelensky for martial law whilst his country is being invaded but don't bat an eyelid at the fact the invader has no respect for human rights at all, no free or fair elections etc.

Christ ******* wept, you lot really are a piece of work.

How many countries hold elections while being invaded?
