1982's The Thing is a better movie with a similar premise so if you haven't seen either watch The Thing as well.
And having a female in a mainstream movie as an all action lead who was serious and wasn’t sexualised. One thing that made Alien so famous is the design of the aliens. No matter if you've seen it before they will still scare you and they will always be terrifying.
The Things a great movie, still hate the dogs scene. The Thing and Alien have almost completely diffrent themes. In fact the premise is only similar on a very basic surface level.
Also don't think we need spoilers for a 46 year old movie.
The interesting thing there is because of how it was written. Ripley was written as a man but after Weaver screen tested and cast they made the conscious choice (screenwriters and director) not to change the script at all.And having a female in a mainstream movie as an all action lead who was serious and wasn't sexualised.
John Carpenter didn't put a foot wrong in the 80s, every film a bangerThe Things a great movie, still hate the dogs scene.
Oh yeah wasn't dismissing it the paranoia and tension of The Thing is utterly brilliant. The petri dish scene is up there in best scenes in cinema. The Things a great movie, still hate the dogs scene.
Everything other than "The Fog", if you've ever read the original "The Fog" book by James Herbert you would realise what an abomination that film was.John Carpenter didn't put a foot wrong in the 80s, every film a banger

I remember him perfectly well as the Visitor in one of my favourite films "Teorema" (Pasolini's one). Amazing film... highly highly recommend to watch it. Terence was incredible in it.![]()

RIP.
All just my opinion:-1986's Aliens. Remember being a teenager and seeing Paul Reiser early in the movie and thinking "This future isn't a place you'd want to live in, this isn't Star Trek". Nearly the whole movie felt new to me so maybe I'd never seen it all the way through before. I can see why people who saw this before Alien would like it more. Watching them a couple days apart the humour felt a little jarring. But kudos to whoever was in charge deciding the sequel would be different and not a repeat of the original.
