The Movie Thread

With the passing of Gene Hackman the Disney app has a load of his films to push, nothing like monetising a death.

Also we should mention the passing of Michelle Trachtenberg at 39, probably most remembered from Buffy.

Yeah, really sad to hear about that too - hadn't realised she had health issues, saw that she had a liver transplant last year

Grew up watching things she was in, from Pete and Pete, to Harriet The Spy, to Buffy to Eurotrip

In my opinion her best performance was playing Marina Oswald in Killing Kennedy. (The wife of Lee Harvey Oswald in the aftermath)

They've also just announced a Buffy reboot with at least Sarah Michelle Geller confirmed as coming back.

Yeh, no different to when a musician passes.

Among my favourite Gene Hackman roles other than Superman, are Unforgiven, Crimson Tide. Actually got to watch the French Connection. One classic I never got round to watching.

This was not the evening to finish watching the apprentice.

After tommorow evening I'll have seen every best picture, director, screenwroter actors, actress main and supporting nominee for this year's oscars. Which Ive managed for the first time.

Not I can get angry at the winners from a completely fair viewpoint.

Who are your picks for the main gongs?

Did you actually like it? I like Yura Borisov in it (but I liked him even many years before it,one of my favourite modern actors), as someone said he "did a lot with a little" in this film. But I have mixed feelings about the movie itself.. it's so weird. Maybe need to watch it one more time to understand better

I've seen it twice...it wasn't my favorite film of last year

I don't think there a lot to understand...sure you read it into it a whole bunch of stuff which is good. It's Pretty Woman but deals with the fallout of what would actually happen post that first week. It has a sexy feel good vibe, then is part screwball comedy and the reality really kicks in that this poor woman is being used by people with far more power than her.
