I am kind of worried about the fan support for Russia. Whereas Spain attracts 5.000 - 10.000 supporters for a home match in the European Nations Cup and Georgia about 15.000 - 25.000 for that same competition, Russia draws about 100 - 200... Ouch...

Georgia-Russia XV
no Yury Kushnarev who is now at the Melbourne Rebels?

He were at the Rebels for the pre-season only.
I've seen Rachkov and Kushnarev at the RWC, in my opinion Rachkov were really better than Kushnarev...

It's because Russia plays his home game in Sotchi (because the weather), and in Sotchi rugby don't exist...
The real rugby place in Russia, it's in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia.
Here is a picture from the russian championship final 2011, in Krasnoyarsk between Enisey-STM and Krasny Yar

According to espnscrum, when Russia played in Krasnoyarsk, the crowd was about 15 000

well what a shock if there is no support in Sochi 80% of the population there are Georgians. Russia should consider summer league unless they already have it... if they do nvm

All this talk of Tier 2 teams having professional championships, and Scotland can barel afford it's two pro teams :s

Wales cannot even afford to run an "A" team, so they have their Under 20 side as the "second senior" team under iRB eligibility regulations. And they're Tier 1!!!

So why don't they move out of Sochi then? Surely Moscow would be better and attract more fans. Or move the games to Krasnoyarsk and join the Asian 5 Nations instead of the European Nations Cup.

I am gonna hazard a guess.

If they move their games from Sotchi, at the times of year they play them there, the players might as well learn how to ice-skate, no?

Moscow soccer clubs have no problems playing in the European competitions which are played from September through May, kinda like the European Nations Cup. I guess you'd need a pitch with artificial heating, but otherwise I don't see any other major obstacles.

Hi all. New to the forum. I was wondering if anyone had any solid news of Yuri Kushnarev. I don't read Russian but it seems from this article that he was unable to find a club and has returned to Russia. Can anyone confirm?

He's starting for Russia against Portugal today.
1 Botvinnikov, 2 V Tsnobiladze, 3 Matveev ; 4 Antonov, 5 Boltenkov ; 6 Temnov, 7 Garbuzov, 8 Gresev ; 9 Yanyushkin (c), 10 Ryabov ; 11 Simplikevich, 12 Makovetsky, 13 Gerasimov, 14 Ostroushko, 15 Kushnarev

16 G Tsnobiladze, 17 Zykov, 18 Kvernadze, 19 Fatahkov, 20 Shakirov, 21 Trishin, 22 Babaev

Russia are progressing really well, and played well against Australia in the World Cup. However, Georgia are perhaps developing the fastest, remember they nearly beat Ireland at the 07 WC, and Scotland at 11 WC.

Despite this they will not make the top 10 ever. Teams like Samoa, and Fiji will be pushing hardest for this. Anyway the rankings are a load of crap, and are not realistic apart from the top 3. (NZ, Aus and SA) France may be third, but they're around 7th in my eyes.

Cool. Was wondering if there was any news on his club situation. Blog seems to suggest his trial with the Rebels was unsuccessful and he wasn't able to link up with any Sydney clubs either. A shame if true.
