The behaviour on this Forum

Edit: gn10 is right. Should probs have a booze thread.

I can't for the life of me understand why the mods didn't do something about Hibbyhanky.

He joined on the day of the England v France game, posted 36 posts of baiting, insults, bollux and other irrelevant tosh, and hasn't been seen since. It was obvious to me after about 5 posts that the only thing he was interested in doing is winding people up. I reported one of his posts to the mods, they didn't ban him, and he still isn't banned.

IMO, the Mods are going to have to seriously raise their game during the World Cup and deal with this sort of arsehole very quickly or it will be mayhem here. If I find I will need to wade through Hibbyhanky style trolling posts to get to the serious debate points, I shant bother!

If seen, it is dealt with. Unfortunately issues can't always be dealt with there and then, there has to be a delay of some sort. Not been seen since, probably never will be again.

Unfortunately we're in the age of the troll and that doesn't look like we'll be seeing the end of that any time soon. That's just the way the internet has gone. I think we do quite well personally but we were perhaps a little stretched in the last couple of weeks of the Six Nations for a couple of reasons.

Ultimately if there is a problem report the post and someone will attend to the issue as soon as they are able. But that might be a few hours or even the day after - sometimes there's just nobody free and that's a regrettable fact of life that we try to counter by having moderators from all corners of the globe.

We're talking about behaviour on this forum. Most of us are usually drunk. Therefore relevant.

I wish I could say I was drunk right now, but Im watching Midsomer Murders with my mum. Thug life.

Feic is a learned doctor and a mentor to young students of science. To discredit him is to discredit the fabric of reality itself!

It's a well known fact among Trinity students that Feic lures visiting Transition Year students into his science dungeon.

Well, here is my 2 cents on the matter.

I think the Mods are doing a great job. I have my pet peeves about certain individuals, who seem to have the sympathy of the mods, which is something out of my control. I do however think that they are doing what has to be done. They are at times lenient, and at other times strict, depending on the nature of the comments, and the infringements made by posters.

I have also been given a slap on the wrist in the past, and I have taken the critique to better myself in my posts. I remember the 2011 world cup, and specifically the South Africa vs. Samoa thread where a lot of trolls who supported Samoa made a very short appearance on this forum. It is my honest opinion that this forum is running a lot better since the departure of posters like Cave Dweller and Big E. There are more relevant topics discussed and the posts between people from different nations are more amicable.

Yes, there will be the odd troll here and there, but it's not like this forum is now spiralling out of control, in fact, the Mods are doing a great job in keeping it respectable and in tact.

Well you answered it. If someone joins on a match day talking crap - they'll often be gone the following day. In Hibbyhanky the mods looked at his posts, merged some of his created threads with existing threads, and let the whole of his five inflammatory (but not abusive towards individual members) posts just peter out. We could ban him, and if he comes back it may be the case, but the fact that after five posts he seems to be done means I don't think the mods need to 'up there game'.

During the RWC I'm sure we'll see some terrible posters. We certainly did in 2011. At the end of the day I think its up to the community to set the standards, and ring in other posters. What I'd hate to see is (and half expect as usual) is that generally quality posters turn on each other due to a few trolls from other nations.

Trolls are just the way it is now unfortunately.

I was on a number of forums on various subjects a couple of years ago and found that I reacted to WUM's and trolls very quickly and got angry.

Realised later that this is fruitless pursuit and left the worst offending forums and to my delight discovered this haven of sanity and upstanding members of society.;)

There's two kinds of trolls.
The good
And
The bad

Trolling is a pure and honest pursuit when laden with humor and satire.
Trolling to merely annoy or anger is indicative of not much going on upstairs nor downstairs.

After watching Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, I think the conclusion is that there are only one kind of troll:

Stone trolls, hill trolls, cave trolls, mountain trolls, snow trolls. These are but a few of the variations of troll found in J.R.R Tolkien's works.
