I'd be against the sub board best poster. Some boards are bigger and more frequented than others, so obviously winning that award should be a bigger deal. By weighing them the same you effectively cheapen both the smaller and bigger forum awards. Then there's also the logistical difficulties. Do I remember the best poster in the 6 nations boards from back in spring? Absolutely not.

Best NH & SH should suffice in this regard. Also, I like the comeback award.

I do actually have some ideas for awards that might be decent:

The Matthew Tait Well Rounded Award - For the poster who posts frequently and knowledgeably on a number of diverse boards. Eg. someone who writes as knowledgeably about the 6 nations as he does about Super Rugby, etc.

The Impact Sub Award - Doesn't post much, but when he does it's real quality.

That rules you out of 2

I post a lot and never venture into the SH boards, true enough.

I'm sorry, tonight I just take up that spot over there and sit down and look around into wilderness while whistling. And like, thinkin' maahn...

How about 'Loosie' award, for those posters that don't have much sense, but are larger than life so you can't help but notice them.

Sounds an awful lot like rewarding people for being loud and obnoxious.

Threesome. You, me, goodnumber10. Mmmmm.
That would be so hawt, what's the midpoint of Paris and Dublin? We could go Cardiff in December and catch the Galight Anthem concert! Feic, you get the Johnnys, GN10, You get the lube, I'll sort out the Yankee candles. #2ndhreesomeI'veorganisedonthisforum

I've also always had a problem with the "comeback award". Most of the posters misuse this, for the opportunity to just get an award. They dissappear for a month or 3, and then come back just before the TRF'ies and all of a sudden he's sorely missed.

Can't we impose some sort of period attached to the award, like you had to be away for a specific period, like say 7 months or more??

And then, can we add an award for those who aren't absent and then makes a comeback? The "AlwaysAround Award" - For the poster that has been actively posting every week for a certain amount of weeks/months?

I'm with Hein on the comeback award. I wouldn't mind seeing it gone.

*****, I took an honest break due to my exams and you're taking away my glory, ask Olyy and he'll lie to you saying that I did it all for mine own self confidence!

The Andy Powell award for best drunk poster.

I like those two Feic.
Can also agree that an award for each board would be a bit much, it would add what, half a dozen new categories. Also, if you didn't frequent that board, how could you effectively vote?

Great question!

But then again, why do we then have the obligatory League Nominations when many of us don't even view those boards. I will take us Saffas as a prime example. I for one am an Union only poster, yet the League department is a permanent fixture every year on the TRF'ies.

Surly if you don't visit that section of the board and therefore you don't know who to nominate you can just not put anyone in that category? OR would that lead to a logistical nightmare for the mods?

I don't think I'd change any of them. TRF awards for players, tries, etc.etc. should come at the end of tournaments by and large, instead of here. That said, a try of the year competition could be cool.

If I was petty and spiteful I'd recommend a reward for "Stupidest use of 'I'm allowed to have an opinion' statement" for posters who turn to Freedom of Speech as an argument when called out on their illogical or ignorant positions... but I'd rather just hand out one day bans.

The only award I have any problem with is the sportsman award for most knowledgeable member across all sports. I think that it ends up, through no ones fault, to be quite bias. Members who like and talk about cricket vote for someone who posts a lot about cricket, same with NFL, Golf, basketball etc... Due to the nature of the award it's impossible for it not to turn into a most knowledgeable member for the second most popular sport on the forum.

My only suggestion would be to change the nominating system for the award so that you can nominate someone for a certain sport and count up the nominations and without a vote award each sport separately, I'd imagine it'd be logistical nightmare though.

Urm not really, the award in the past has been won by people who post and show good knowledge across a multiple of sports, not just one.

But he has a point. I post on the Cricket, Football, Commonwealth and Golf threads... But I don't post on the NFL, NHL, or NBA threads as I know too little about those sports and we don't get that much coverage down here in SA. So it ends up going to the poster who generally made posts in all those threads, even though he might not be the most knowledgable across all the different sports...

Thats why its a judgment thing. I know sports but dont know much about golf, tennis, NBA or didnt really give a hoot about the C'wealth Games. So if someone posts in those yet posts guff they arent going to be judged as knowledgeable

So what ... I know very little about Hurling, Gaelic Football, Aussie Rules, Polo, Croquet ... so what. In the UK coverage is limited on Baseball, Basketball, American Football, NRL etc because it cost to subscribe. I have to find alternative methods to view the sports I enjoy By your logic that means I technically couldn't be awarded the sportsman award.

If there were threads and people posted then so be it. People getting anal over the award it seems, which of course is right to bring it up but doesn't mean they are correct.

That's why I think the award is a bit flakey. I'd say that NFL and Cricket are probably the most talked about sports on the forum after rugby but I have no interest in them and wouldn't go near them so I'd nominate someone who knows a bit about golf, soccer, gaelic games (Quite niche this one) and the one off events that I enjoy such as the snooker world championships come into play as well so my vote becomes a knowledgeable poster for sports I like not sports across the board.

The George North Award ? - for a young user who has made the biggest impact on the forum ?
