People were making automatic block lists (i.e. you click a button and it blocks hundreds of accounts instantly) for right wing trolls and advertiser's and they started complaining their engagement was down

Even so, part of "free speech" is also choosing who you don't want to engage with.

I say I don't understand it in a slightly sarcastic way, I know exactly why Musk did it. Largely it's because of how many people were blocking him.

Looking to get myself a new android smart phone and throwing it out there for suggestions from the hive mind.

I've always been a OnePlus owner and my current smart phone is a OnePlus 6T which has lasted since 2018, but now I feel like I need an upgrade.

As expected I've looked at the OnePlus 12 but as there's so many brands and reviews out there, any recommendations?

Heard nothing but good things about the new OnePlus phones tbf, couple of people I work with have them and love them

I've got a Pixel 8, and had 3, 5 and 7 before - really really like them, prefer the Google ecosystem to the Samsung

This conversation obviously isn't for me
£500 for 128GB? value for money?
I spent quarter of that for double the memory, and have a mobile that actually fits in my pocket (possibly a bit TOO small for the google keyboard to work properly)

Oh,my partner prefers Pixel as well. I don't really like them though, I have/had Xiaomi phones for almost seven years, really love them, but my partner says they're terrible :D
Personally, I'd recommend Xiaomi

Yep, different market. When iPhone pro max and Samsung Ultra 24s are going for in excess of £1k. £499 is a relative bargain for these smart phones. Plus factor in the trade in value. These are just mini computers now. Plus more attractive to thieves.

I had a Pixel 3, 4, then a 5. Then had to get a 6 for wifi calling.

Loved the 3/4/5. Not happy with the 6 - a bit unresponsive/laggy at times and the fingerprint unlock on the front is far inferior to the old one on the back.

You happy with 8? Any issues with the two things I've mentioned?

Like you say - I do prefer the Google ecosystem - had Samsungs before and they were just too bloat heavy.

No issues with unresponsive/finger print not working at all - though I'm definitely on your page with not liking them changing the fingerprint reader from the back to the front, though I'm used to it by now

got an iphone 16 on the weekend (first time getting on pretty much on release)....worked impeccably....but the camera protrusion is very noticeable

Had a Pixel 4a and now have a 7 which I've had for a while - very happy with it. Very occasionally the fingerprint doesn't recognise but that's usually due to screen smudge or moisture on my finger. I read that it's best to add a load of fingerprint scans and an updated one every so often. Really like the phones and the google ecosystem. Can't see me going back to apple now especially after they slowed my old phones down and made some generic accessories incompatible after system updates.

Had a Samsung prior to the pixels and the handsets just seemed more flimsy.
