Terrible attitude of French fans

Olives, tomato, salami and a decent but not decadent amount of good mozzarela on a thin base. That's my go-to. I quite like a hot juicy piece of pineapple on a pizza too but it has to be bacon then and not ham IMO.

I also prefer a Weiss for a beer and jelly beans over dark chocolate so I know my opinions would be frowned upon with what can only be described as a terrible attitude in.. erm.. some parts of the globe.

If thats what you like i can't see any problems, its like drinking white wine with beef, its not illegal and certainly the punter drinks what he likes irrespective of rules and regs!!!!!!!!!!! not sure about Jelly Beans over excellent Belgian dark choccy though......
I saw a publicity on a van coming back from the final in Lyon (which if you did not know we won) it said " Save the planet as its the only place where chocolate is produced"........
not bad i thought, being a great lover of dark choc.

Ha, we each have our own tastes. I have to say the white wine thing with us Saffas is purely a climatic one. When its 35+ degrees C outside a cool Chardonnay just looks more alluring than any red one could put forward. I personally rather wait till evening and drink red with my steak or go for white meat when its hot out but I do understand my countrymen. Apart from us chucking Coke into brandy. That one I don't get. As if the brandy isn't sweet enough already or something. That one I can't work out.

I find the pineapple can make the base too soggy. Which is a shame, I love pineapple. Particularly in tacos.

Never knew about Saffas and the white wine, interesting to know.

i must admit i'm a beef and red wine man and we now have some great reds in the south of France must admit i no longer buy Bordeaux or Bourgogne and stick to the local wines from Pic St Loup to Corbieres, and most half the price of the others and the quality second to non.
Still cant come to putting pineapple on Pizzas and i have my own wood burning pizza oven in the summer kitchen, even cooked a whole leg of Sanglier one evening, but as it takes ages to cook we watched and drank beer, very difficult evening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
our neighbour and friend is coming back from Ilse de Reunion tomorrow and she is bring back those small beautiful pineappples but they are not going on pizzas, ice cream or fresh cream yummie !!!!!

I generally rotate my wine based on the season. Summer is generally white and winter is red wine. Definitely red wine with steak though. But my preference is generally for red wine anyway, summer evenings can still be good for some red. It's just not ideal during the day.

Do you put cheese on your pizza and how do you fire it? I usually put all my toppings on top of a thin layer of sliced (not grated) mozzarela. I like very thin crusts so a soggy crust a no-go and I find the sliced mozzarella acts as a control barrier of sorts for the pineapple because it has to be a fresh and juicy pineapple to work alongside the saltiness of other toppings.

Just an aside, as this thread seems to have been hijacked ..... Is the ungentlemanly behaviour of French fans due to the crap pizzas they eat before the game?

When i use my wood burning pizzas oven i use the old souches (grape vinessome 100yrs old) they are excellent and the oven reaches temps of 400° + so when the base goes on the stone of the oven all the vapour comes immediately out of the dough so it is always crispy and never soggy, i use Mozzarela buffalo, and i cut it into small cubes, also use goats cheese and a little grated guyere, and munster when i do a 4 cheese pizza, cheese on last after toppings, but never pineapple, well not yet i just have to do a bacon and pineapple one just to keep you guys happy.

this is not hijacking just plain old cooking yadda amongst guys, pizzas and pineapples with a little red wine to boot.and no crap pizzas before games!!!!!!!!!!!

Harder to understand than monkey gland sauce?!? :p To be fair, I could say the same about the majority of bottled sauces that people love to slather over things so that they can't taste them.

Dunno man, I just get someone who makes pizzas to do it for me. I will bear this in mind though.

No, it's the evolution of the thread into something interesting ;)

Ahh, so may we assume that Montpellier fans are the best behaved in France!!

They are pretty good but as the majority are French there is plenty of noise during conversions and penalties, not forgetting the ref of course, this is not the upper class rugby bod of the UK with Barbour and all. You have to remember all rugby grounds in France especially villages were oringinally within hearing distance of the village Church bells.

If you smear a decent layer of cream cheese on your pizza as a base layer then it works very well with the pineapple. I get why some people might think pineapple is bad on pizza because some foods are better cold than hot. Some people put the avocado on the pizza before they bake it and i just like it more when placed on the pizza afterwards. in that respect i can understand people why people would not like warm pineapple.

A bit of an eye opener for anyone who thinks that English rugby as a whole occupies any sort of moral high ground:

Are there ever any instances of crowd violence around the world? I can't recall hearing of any anywhere. A Google search throws up a lot of articles about soccer violence and a surprising amount about rugby league.

Interesting idea, I hadn't heard of that. I'm not into DIY pizzas,so I've never tried, but if I did and was using pineapple, I would probably dry it gently with paper towels like you would with cucumber in certain dishes, although maybe this would make it dry out too much.

As it is, I'll stick to ordering whichever pizza contains the most processed pig products from dodgy takeaways when drunk!

What about salting the pineapple lightly? Similar to the method with cucumber, absorbs a lot of the water.

If that sounds disgusting it's because I have no idea how you would make pineapple on a pizza nice. I'm firmly in the no camp.

But... why would anyone DO such a thing? it's just... an horrendous idea all round.
There is no way of making pineapple work on a pizza; and the problem isn't (just) the moisture - it's the pineapple!

To be honest, before this thread I had no idea that pineapple was such a contentious topping. Hawaiian pizzas are one of the most popular pizzas around in South Africa (even though it isn't my particular favourite).
