Super Rugby: Rebels vs. Chiefs in Melbourne (03/05/2013)

Rebels in again. For a change it wasn't from a forward pass ;)

39-33. 4 mins left.

Kearns is silent...

EDIT:
That was a solid minute where Kearns was quiet. Lemme guess, the commentators and TMO think it's a knock on??

Seriously, worst commentators ever. If the TMO wants to be consistent, this should be a try. ;)

EDIT2:

Not effing surprised...

Wow./ Seriosuly bad defence frmo the Chiefs.

And i thought the Canes couldn't close out games. :p

Well done (?) Chiefs/. TBH, the TMO must've had money in this game + the bad Chiefs defence = the result. Dunno why the Chiefs are being booed. The crowd got the benefit of the doubt at all times. Game shoudl've been 39-14.

Dodgy at best. Of course, Kearns and Co and the rest of Strayah think the TMO is brilliant....

I swear; if ANY OF US had that bad of a day at our jobs; we'd be sweating it right now.

Unless we had Phil Kearns as our boss that is. ;)

Wow, that sure was fun to watch, although I would have preferred it if the Chiefs played to make it a little less exciting.;)

Agree with everyone that the TMO was horrible. And I thought the refs from the Blues vs. Stormers game were bad! At least their questionable calls balanced themselves out...

Maybe for rugby should consider adapting some rules from other sports.

1) If any team do not agreed with the referee decision, they could challenge it and review by the TMO and assistance referee. Each teams will be given 3 challenges per game. This is the rule comes from tennis game.

2) And for the forward pass, can consider using the photo technology same as the 100m sprint or the horse racing to determine whether the pass was forward.

A real try fest, happy with the win. But the Chiefs conceded too many tries. We should focus on our defense.

Apparently some Aussie called Steve Lesczynski.

He is either completely incompetent or he had money on the Rebels. I'm leaning towards the later, as I find it hard to believe someone could be that poor at their job...

I agree completely.

I don't usually like to slam referees and officials (except for the now retired Stu Dickinson, who IMO was never good enough to referee at this level), but this guy really is a chump.

Higginbotham's Try - The pass from Tom English to Scott Higginbotham was clearly and obviously thrown forward.

Nick Phipps' try - The pass from James O'Connor to Kurtley Beale was even more obviously thrown forward, and even worse, to a player ahead of him.

Gareth Anscombe's disallowed try - All season, SANZAR referees have been ruling that the ball carrier is responsible for ball security, and any time the ball gets dislodged, the ball carrier is at fault. Now, this dickwad reverses all that.

The Rebels were not good enough to be as close as they were; if the Chiefs had lost at the last moment, they would have truly been robbed by an abysmal TMO performance.

I am glad someone agrees with me about Stu Dickinson who in my opinion was the main reason the Reds won the 2011 Super Rugby. If you look at it, he ref'd most of their big matches and gave pretty appalling decisions in their favour.

A couple of quick thoughts on the game (apart from the idiot of a TMO):

- Beale looked like his old self when he came on, which is great news for Wallabies supporters.
- Hugh Pyle was phenomenal - he will come very close to a Wallabies jersey this season.
- Higginbotham played well again

- Sam Cane is looking more and more like a young McCaw
- Brodie Retallick is still a machine
- Gareth Anscombe continues to impress - he was actually very solid in defense this week too (as he can sometime be very passive in the tackle)
- Bundee Aki looks good when he backs himself.
- Tikoirotuma was very hit and miss on defense. He seems to always go for the big hit, but got bounced off more often than not this match....

Totally agree.

Especially about AKi. He and Nanai-Williams are probably the most fleet-footed pair of midfield backs in the comp. probably not the best defensive organisers or defensively minded - I thought they were a bit soft in that channel.

Cane looked real good. If he can stay balanced we'd get a few more turnovers. But he gets to the breakdowns well.

What do they teach these guys? A little common sense and a simple grasp of physics would help.

If youre watching a replay of a pass from a camera that is at half way, and the player passing the ball is in his own half, when the player passes the ball AT the camera, you can go ahead and assume its forward.

Also there are handy lines painted on the field you can use as visual clues. That pass to Higginbothom was absolutely ridiculous!

Im glad we won so I can be outraged without feeling guilty.

Also does Phill Kearns think his comments are so insightful that he has to come to work with a cold? Every time he started a coughing fit I was hoping he would die. Do us all a favor and stay in bed next time big guy.
