Super Rugby: Hurricanes vs. Kings in Wellington (30/03/2013)

Boy, that was a painful game to watch. I don't think the ref helped, he was so quick to blow his whistle, which, coupled with lots of handling errors, made for a very disjointed match. And ****, how short were those advantages for knock ons? Everything was getting blown up so fast, you kind of take for granted that most refs give players a chance to stop infringing before blowing them up.

I agree that the commentators are awful as well. Justin Marshall can seriously go do one, Jesus wept. Going on about the Hurricanes' ill discipline, did he ever consider that the ref was a dbag?

Anyway, given that the main talking points are how bad the ref and commentators were, it was a bloody average game all round. Still, maximum points is good for the Hurricanes. No, they're not playing the best at present, but still collecting points along the way is immense to get them through until they do start 'clicking'.

Barrett and Taylor weren't incredible by any means, but they were solid enough for me to think that they're going to find their form soon enough... Actually their form might be the big difference between this year and last year. Neither are taking it to the line as well as they were, but save an iffy call on obstruction prior to the Kings' first try, it might have been seven points down the other end as Taylor broke through. I also thought there were some nice little passes in there on Barrett's part, and his kicking game was solid enough.

Watching the game now - just need to know if Marshall said anything stupid so I can defend him. :D
