lol I think you should be able to take a mual down IF you take down your own guy (causing a collapse). Or the ball has to be at the centre of the maul if the mauling team wants to advance *i.e. carried by one of the maulers instead of being at the back ready to ship out. Would at least make things interesting.

Disengaging doesn't work in a 5m lineout, though, because that would just be an easy try. And 5m lineouts seem to be where NZ teams are having the most difficulty, perhaps because they are too weary of the attack coming after the ball is taken out to defend the maul properly.
