Super Rugby: Highlanders vs. Sharks in Dunedin (04/05/2013)

This game is so good, Highlanders try was on par with that 1970's BaaBaa try.

While slade's goal kicking has been **** his field kicking and catching has been outstanding. He's getting fantastic distance on those punts showing signs of getting into better form.

They need to adjust the rules for pilfering a ball the players pilfering should not be allowed to put their hands on the ground at any stage when leaning over, teams have become to adept at just leaning over as soon as a tackle is made and just hanging there with their hands on the ground waiting for the tackled player to release the ball. It makes it very difficult for the attacking team to get anything going properly.

Actually I think that is a rule - or at least it has been refereed that way by some refs.

Steve Walsh is just pure crap then as the sharks were at it all night. Luckily he let the landers off with one crazy blatant one at the end to get away with the win so that kinda evened it up. But without all that sharks cheating and if slade had kicked the goals this could of been an easy win to the landers.

Delighted for the Highlanders and Thorn in particular hard fought win in a great match.

Intense game indeed.
Ellison the big difference to the Landers im my view and he should be All Black this year

That is 2-0 in close games for NZ vs. SA teams this weekend

Ellison has been a bit forgotten and he might even push someone like ranger out of the team by the time selection comes around. The way i see Hanson selecting the team i dont expect many changes from last year which I will be bloody disapointed by but thats what i expect. When we have an average rugby championship this year and again get beaten by England at the end of the year he'll realise he should be making some changes now. He's already stated he's not going to dump guys like Dagg who are woefully out of form.

Caught just the end, and what I saw - especially regards the defense - reminded me a bit of that Force win over the Saders. You could see just how hungry the Highlanders were for that win. A real nail-biter. Will need to watch the match in full, but I am just so pleased with the outcome - you never want to see a team go winless. It's not good for the team, the fans, or the sport.

Well done on the win Darwin, Jabs.
Sharks are in the ****, season is a write-off now, better take advantage of it and try some things out.

Despite not winning the Highlanders were not that bad this year. In attack they were potent. Its was just that missing link called Adam Thompson that left a hole there. Seems like they busy closing it now

I don't think their season can be written off yet, only six points outside the top six.

Sharks always bounce, last year it was only in the last round that they made it to the play offs with average season and at the end they made it to the final

Yep. that is what the Law says and its how it is supposed to be interpreted. The jackler must support his bodyweight entirely on his own feet. If he leans on the ground with either hand, or uses the body of a prone player as support while he still does not have a hold of the ball, then he is deemed to be "off his feet".... ping!

However, once the jackler has a firm grip on the ball, he has possession, and if he loses balance or is pulled down so that his hands/arms/the ball touch the ground, he does NOT have to release, because its not a tackle. At this point, he can smuggle the ball back or roll over with the ball.

The point here is that the jackler is allowed to handle the ball in the ruck PROVIDED that he had possession of the ball BEFORE the ruck formed.

Thought you meant us for a second :$

Thanks draggs, full credit to the sharks, they really gave it 110% and im just glad we dug deep came away with it in the end ;-)

I could watch that try over and over :-D

Nah mun, Highlanders deserved it. They haven't played like a team that lost 8, and didn't deserve that record, glad to see them finally get something. Not sure what has happened with the Landers this season, much like the Sharks we expected great things...

See thats what i thought but so many teams are doing it I thought the IRB must of made an adjustment somewhere along the line. Theres a few teams in the competition that are particularly notable for it simply because of their style of play. But end of the day they are only doing what the ref's will let them away with. Anyone got Murray Mexteds facebook? he's the man to get on to these idiots about it. LOL.

If you saw the Brumbies v Crusaders match tonight you would have seen Craig Joubert do exactly what you are asking. Twice he penalised players (one from each team) for putting their hands on the ground beyond the ball.
