Should Robshaw Captain England?

If I could post a facepalm picture from my phone, I would.
Just imagine there's one here:

HA! thanks. i wrote this quite late at night. robshaw does indeed play for the harlequins (sorry trf_mite) and i can't really be blamed for mixing up crofts name when england has so many back rowers called tom 4-letter-surname (croft, wood, rees)

Croft has five letters in in mate ;)

Does anyone remember when we used to talk about rugby on TRF?

thank you captain obvious. i was making a generalisation. i guess it makes you feel like a big smart boy to point out stupid things like that.
well in fairness at least he can count to five

One feels mildly vindicated. Not great, but worked well enough. Bigger challenges ahead before I'd feel actually vindicated though.

He was a decent enough captain and I'd say he had a good game...if he had 6 on his back.
Shown up completely and absolutely by Rennie as a 7 though.

Croft had a good game as well though, compared to recent form - Hard to say who should go when Wood is back and firing on all cylinders.
I'd be tempted to have 6. Robshaw, 7. Clark, 8. Morgan for Italy, with Croft on the bench, and then go from there.

When's Wood expected back, does anyone know?

Wood is expected back after the Italy game, and I'd rather have Wood captain than Robshaw purely because he has more experience and I've never seen Wood go wrong in an international game really. He always gives 100% and I was disappointed with Robshaw today for giving away a cheap penalty when he and Lancaster have been banging on about discipline.

By cheap penalty you mean the one 15 yards from the line with the Scots flooding forwards and the defence is disarray, which Robshaw held onto until the English defence was in position to stop the otherwise probable Scottish try? Because, as you might have gathered, I believe Robshaw made entirely the right decision to cheat like mad there.

I shall make no decision about what I'd do after the Italy game until after the Italy game, but based on today he'd be on the bench for me.

Yup, agree with that - if he hadn't given the penalty who knows what would have happened.
It's like Deacon vs Wales last year (I think?) gave away a yellow card to stop a certain try - probably the smartest thing he did in an England jersey.

maybe the site should be renamed thesometimesrugbutmosltysmacktalkforum.com?

i didn't see the game. but if the is a time to give away a "cheap" penalty, that sounds like the time to do it.

Can we shorten that to therugbysmacktalkforum? I like the sound of that.

Lets see how he does. He does deserve a place in the side as for captaincy its hard because we dont know how he is around the dressing room/ training park

lets give him a fair trial AND THEN HANG HIM.

I like Robshaw and its too early to say how good he can be for England. I want to see wood back and play alongside Robshaw as i am convinced that is a formiddable partnership. However, i wonder how long can we go without a specialist No.7...

I think Robshaw is a very good player, but in no way, shape or form, is he a 7 (For starters he is too tall). And I think croft is actually a better blindside and No one in their right mind would put him above Morgan at 8. Thats the problem, there is no room for him, and history shows that choosing a captain before better players is a backward step.
Johnson made the same mistake by choosing Moody before a real openside.

Croft has been off-form, pretty much since the last Lions tour. Impossible to say just how Robshaw would perform wearing the 6 jersey on an international stage, but he's consistently delivered while playing for 'quins. If he wasn't so useful in the lineout, Croft would be riding the pine for me.

I reckon Robshaw would go great at 6 for England as he's been playing 6 for England the last two rounds (just with a 7 on his back) and performed well.
