Sharks players who are suspended for foul play will in future see their wages docked.

As per the previous agreement, Du Plessis, Steyn and Deysel are still drawing on their salaries even though they aren’t on the field, but that is to change going forward.

Good idea, and I think the other teams should follow suit. Hit them where it hurts for their bad behaviour on the field.

Good for them. I'm not sure why professional sides haven't been doing this for years, can anyone suggest reasons why this isn't a good idea? I can't really think of any in the modern professional environment.

My guess is that Labour Laws, and Conditions of Employment was in the past not structured in such a way to provide this type of condition.

Players sign contracts on a year-on-year basis, and in the past, their salary was not structured based on the amount of games they play, it was structured like any normal employee who works for a business in that you get a monthly salary.

But now that players have club/franchise contracts as well as national contracts, their salary is now based on match performance, and therefore they can now institute this type of move. This also coincides with South African Labour Law in the case of protest action (strikes), where no employee will be paid when they belong to a union/federation and participate in the protest during work hours.

and if you are treated unfairly? get a red card for a "incident" not worthy of red?

If Northampton and England did this Dylan Hartley would be on Income Support

Quite often these are reviewed and overturned after the match, but blatant acts of foul play will always be that.

Double yellows leading to a red for example would be dealt with differently I imagine as it is not the type of foul play they are talking about, if they were play if the ball infringements.
