[RWC2023] South Africa vs Ireland (23/09/2023)

Think this will be a tight old nuggety game.
Not High scoring but paddies by less than7.

I predict Ireland to win by 11.
All backs to remain injury free, but after forwards replaced, a backrower to get injured and we have no replacements, finishing the game with 14 players.

Pollard to then come in at 10 after this game and we kick A Dupont less France out the world cup to rematch Ireland in the final of the WC.

With that said The 38 year old Porcelain Poodle will have a tough day out there with a certain PSdT going about eating 10s

I'm genuinely conflicted about this game...

Some days I feel like the slick Irish attack will stun the SA blitz into a place they dont want to be...

Then the following day I see these pack just eating the Irish...

Then I see Johnny going down early...

Then I see Libbok colliding with Klerk and both going down...

It's not often this happens, but I have NO idea who will win, and I love that feeling! I fancied France having too much up front for NZ, I thought England would come out against Arg, and Wales v Fiji, but this game I'm clueless, so I'm just going to sit back and enjoy

I agree it won't be high scoring. But "paddies"? Really? Not sure quite what the equivalent derogatory term is for the English... chinless wonders?:p

So France without Dupont is the prize for the losers...

We will want to avoid a stressful situation against Scotland but SA are probably looking at this as an absolute nothing game now. Even Faz said it's not a must win.

Still psyched though but there could be a bit more shadow boxing between these two yet.

Either Ireland by 5 or South Africa by 22
I get this feeling too...

Ireland will be put under a great amount of pressure ball in hand, and at the breakdown. Either they can deal with it, and get their attack game going, in which case they can win this game, or the pressure gets to them and they make a lot of mistakes in which SA capitalise hard

I liked Farrell's line about us not being favourites and the team thinking they should be. Coupled with the consistent mentions the last game in Stade de France. Really using the only chance we have for "redemption" and chip on shoulder motivation to the max.

He seems like a confident man.

Personally I enjoyed his comment about debating internally around using a 1-7 split bench of backline players.

I've been thinking of which other teams could pull off a ridiculous bench and I think Fiji could perhaps do it even better than us?

I'm thinking we are putting up the 7-1 ONLY to troll the media, get the hate stirred up to fuel our "laer trek" attitude.

Anyway, may the best team win.

Yeah, that's who I came up with - could potentially put out a bench of 8 forwards, who all play 7s, and are comfortable in the backline if necessary.
Obviously, the 3 specialist front rowers puts paid to them using a bench of 8 backs - but they probably could get away with a 3:5 split as well.
