[RWC2023] Samoa vs Chile (16/09/2023)

Ref bunker: great idea.

Stopping the game to hold the captain's hand and tell them the decision: Less so.
Honestly they don't do it enough. Maybe don't pause the game, but use a break in play like how they just did now before the scrum to have it explained (both to the captain and to the audience) so there is no misunderstanding or frustration of incorrect calls.

I think it's becoming pretty clear now that refs have been given an instruction to search for mitigation wherever possible. France's card yesterday, there was his arm coming around the back side, therefore they're applying mitigation even though the front arm is tucked. This first yellow to Chile would've been a red a year ago, but now there is another tackler bound on with the tackled player not really dipping, but because that other player is attached. There is mitigation.

Just don't be English and have some kinda player joining in the tackle and then you're fine: it will be yellow

McFarland wins MOTM. Not a big surprise. Feels like he wins it regularly when playing for Saracens.
