[RWC2023 QF2] Ireland vs New Zealand (14/10/2023)

Can someone please give me some soothing words why we can beat NZ. Got this horrible feeling they're going to destroy us.

I am in the south of France a bit vino'd and nervous 🤣

It will depend on how Ireland handles the pressures of a nation's expectations, favouritism status in the match as No.1 team, and their historical QF exits. We've been there, done that and we beat the scars as forever reminders.

The All Blacks are playing under a new experience - as underdogs. My only concern is they will play as underdogs mentally, instead of the conviction that the are reclaiming their throne.

The winner of this QF will win the final.

47-21 to the All Blacks
And as the man says. Records are there to be broken.
Ireland have had these pressures and more since the tour to NZ last year.
It is first time in my life time, and I'm not a young porn model, that I feel Ireland have depth and can adapt.
Joe Schmidt built a great 15 but let a gap develop after that. Farrell has built a squad, an army hardened by the Wigan mentally

No matter how bad it gets and if you lose. Take heart in the fact it wasn't to England in a semi-final. Beating the All Blacks in recent world cups is more are thing any way...... Sleep well sweet prince. Sleep well 😉

You are deservedly the number one team in the World. 17 straight wins, 3 of the last 4 against the ABs, won a series 2-1 in New Zealand last year. Oh and just to top it off, it will be like you are playing in Croke Park with the amount of Irish fans there. It's a home game for you really.

Posts like this give me confidence. Pressure, history et al won't affect this team to be honest. I think they're ******* ruthless and it sounds like clutching at straws.

Not to say that we'll win for sure but we're happy favourites.

This was a good post until the predicted score.

I wouldn't rule out NZ winning at all, but they're definitely not scoring 47 points against this Irish team …

I'm predicting an Irish win by 10-12 points.

on the Fozzie factor....ive seen a couple of reports suggesting Leister has been training instead of Telea...and christie instead of Roigard.....the man just see things most of of dont...and are not there

i kind of get what they're saying...i think if we win then it might be a big score...because if its close then i dont think we have the steel to get our nose over the line...ireland make a couple of mistakes and the abs get a couple of tries early and they might kick on....ireland score early or keep it close and i think we'll fold

very interesting table going around the socials

you might wonder if ireland have another three big games in them...but you can also see why they are so well drilled

also see why we may not have developed our combinations well enough

South africa look to have managed their time right in the middle....

We more or less treated our first two pool games as our warm ups. The actual warm ups were for fringe guys to take the last 7-10 available spots in the squad and tune up in case they were needed as cover.

I doubt our lads are close to being gassed. Especially after emptying the bench at 45 mins the last day.

I also think they might have looked at Leinster's ERC loss toLa Rochelle and decided that resting players has downsides as well. Farrell and his staff haven't made too many mistakes in the last few years so I'm confident he has based his decisions on strong analysis.

Not this much pressure! Ireland caved in the 2019 RWC QF to an under-performing All Blacks team who got trounced by the poms, and hastened Hansen's departure.
Ireland deservedly won the home series last year against an ABs team that was badly coached and ill-prepared by a pretender who wouldn't be allowed to coach the Horowhenua 3rd 15.
This is the first time Ireland has to play as overwhelming favourite as No.1 team, at the stage beyond which they've never advanced, and under unbearable expectation from the country. If they can cope with the pressures, they will prevail.

But I'm quietly confident our players will carry the day for us - even allowing for the incompetent Foster!!

If that's our run-on 15, I'm happy with 14 of them. Cane can come off the bench if we must have him. But where's Papali'i on the list??

We were shite in 2019? Had lost 4 games before reaching NZ.

I think we're better and I think our players know how to make that count.

I just hope I don't feel like we've ****** away another opportunity to show what we're about on Saturday though. If we die with our boots on (very possibly againt an NZ team that can score tries) I will be happy for the last 12 months.

I hear rumours that Ilume has been making overtures through intermediaries to Farrell as coach of England...

You're a great supporter of your team - never lose faith, even after this weekend's result. I know the majority of Kiwis will be rooting for Ireland to win the Webb Ellis if your team wins our QF.
Before Foster became coach, most Kiwis would never countenance the probability that the ABs would be beaten - ever!! It's a state of mind which, indirectly, provides additional motivation for the team to live up to the expectation of the nation.
When we lost to Ireland in Chicago, it didn't hurt so much because it was to Ireland and it was felt they deserved it after 100+ years of trying. Ireland & NZ have a lot more in common in culture and social attitudes than sets us apart. Which is why losing to your team over the last few years doen't hurt as much as losing to the poms in the 2019 SF:mad:

Since Foster was appointed coach, he has lost just about every record that the ABs held - including losing for the first time a round-robin RWC match! The only 2 records still intact are no-losses to Scotland or Italy (for which I'm grateful we won't get the chnce to play Scotland under Foster!!).

Looking forward to the real RWC'24 Final on Sunday morning NZT

great post

if we are the lose then id liked either france or ireland to do it (can we get a france ireland final?)

i have to say i just dont get the hate out there for this team or that team, the most negative i can get is preferring SA not win again as then they would have more than us...but if they do then they probably deserve it....
