[RWC2019][Semi-Final 1] England vs. New Zealand (26/10/2019)

If you note the rest of my bookmarks are very work related (I've just had to check there is nothing I have to worry about, there isn't). Sadly there are some things work related that only work in IE......as a software engineer it makes me weep.

Please don't tell me you use programs in light mode?!

Just a note that Isa Nacewa predicted an NZ win. Hard luck England, good run.
In fairness he also predicted we'd make the final in 2015.

But in all honesty, I know he lives on the other side of the world but I wish he was a pundit on Irish tv. Really smart guy, very articulate, all round legend, and one of the most intellegent rugby players I've seen.

I agree and cant get this out of my head.
I know its untimely , but surely Watson to FB and Nowell or Daly to wing would be right call.

Blimey I didn't realise it was quite THAT bad. 16 missed tackles from 42 in 2019 for England . Scary.
Daly to the wing would be the wrong call, he gets bundled into touch in attack unless we are given alot of space or he has a 2 on 1 in the wide channels which he wouldnt because watson isnt the same link player he is.

Are we so scored of his defence that we want to weaken our own attack? Watson is better beating a player 1 on 1, better at regathering a box kick and a better finisher(which he will do more on the wing). Daly is good running from deep at the 13 channel (his natural position). Better handling to put watson through.

We will not beat the ABs but weakening our attack for the couple of tackles daly will have to make. And as Olly said Daly was FB last time we played them and we kept within a point.

Just to clarify im not saying watson isnt a better all round fullback, what im saying is in the attacking structure EJ has created Daly is vital in attack and with 20 assists and 4 tries this year i do get why. We cant defend to victory against a team like the ABs.

We are slowly entering a brave new world, transitioning a 20 year code base from CVS to GIT, as well as refreshing it to work with new hardware......if you wonder why I post so much it take 30 minuites to build an entire image...

For the love of god - any god; **** it, ALL gods - can we please stop this insistance on amalgamating 2 names into 1.
I hate it with dog breeds; it has absolutely no place when talking about human!

We're not German, we're allowed to use the space bar when required!
Well that was a silly thing to say. Have at him chaos!!

I started GITing this place when I started in June, and now we're migrating servers so I've gotta do all that and then re-GIT - hence the downtime while we transfer 100 or so sites

So we are getting ever closer now. And all the focus here is on all the questions the ABs ask and how England will answer them. But wait up, we ask some pretty being questions too. Our kick chase game with May (fastest winger in the pitch come Saturday) running onto the ball. Sure the ABs will have some good cover but we just push them into touch and then get our pretty decent line out firing, then deploy one of the best driving mauls isn't he world with a pretty hefty pack.

then there's are excellent back row, which England have not had in bloody years. This means that not only can our forwards do all the set piece stuff, but also move around the field, compete at the breakdown, and win ball back/slow and frustrate ball.

a fired up England pack will steam roll the ABs at scrum time.

whether England play ford/faz/Slade or Faz/Slade/manu there are always at least 2 playmakers available who can kick, and with Daly coming into the line you have one more. This again is something that England have not had in an age.

put simply the ABs have never played an England side like this one. Forwards who can set piece and have soft hands, multiple playmakers, and SH coach etc. We all know what the ABs can do, nothing has really changed for them, but this England is a new beast, a Chimera, and injected with the passion of the Rose and soul of Twickers, with warm ale in hand and Sweet Chariots blazing a light across the Japanese sky, they may just have met their match.

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!!!!!

It's now come out (via a statement on the SARRA website) that Jaco Peyper was initially chosen to referee this match but was replaced by Nige on the back of that photo. From previous threads I think most English fans are not big fans of Owens so may have preferred Jaco... how does everyone feel about this? Any particular preference?

Ah, but that is where you are wrong my friend. Since we last met, a lot has changed for the All Blacks, especially in the back-line.

Going back to last year, we were running a single playmaker set up and still running our stock standard 1-3-3-1 formation. I explained in the Irish thread prior to the match that ever since our EotY tour last year, where our attack had obviously largely been contained and 'found out' (Barrett/MF being stifled and been given no room), Hansen and Foster ripped up the playbook and went to work on creating new formations to unlock rush defences. This has mainly been Foster's project and to his credit, it looks like so far, he has nailed it.

We now have a dual playmaker formation, with Mo'unga coming in at 10 and Barrett dropping to 15. Bless Ben Smith, but Beaudy is working better there now and can play as a 10 if required. On offense we are running at least up to 4-5 different formations, these vary between 3-3-2 and 2-2-3-1 and our traditional 1-3-3-1. This has given some of our new players new ball carrying roles, particularly Read who now works as central pod carrier and Ardie now can be spotted on the wings in a number of formations, the new formations are very hard to set up against defensively. This has taken a number of games to bed in, but Hansen/Foster have timed it well and haven't shown our cards too much in the RC, where it was only really unveiled and rolled out vs Australia in the 2nd Bledisloe game. It has since then been continuing to integrate and has come to fruition in the SA game and executed in the Ireland game.

A few posters are probably tired of hearing about it. But I'm really excited to see it all in action again vs England, because it's brought us back to scoring great tries.

Why do people always describe things they don't agree with as being Political Correctness? Making that motion with his elbow is making fun of the player who was sent off and in no way is that appropriate for any referee, let alone the one who showed the card.

Don't get me wrong it's not that I'm offended or shocked by it, I don't really care to be honest, but it's a totally stupid thing to do and he can only blame himself.

i'll agree to disagree.
what jaco does in his own time isnt my business. im more concerned what he does on the field and he's one of the better refs around. not the best but still international quality and amongst the top in the world
