RWC Warm Up: Canada v. Australian Barbarians

I know Rugby Canada was originally stating the game as Canada vs. Australia "A" but about 3-4 months ago it got switched to the Barbarians, is there an uncapped player in the team? I have no idea why they are using that moniker it isn't like the "A" side would be awarded caps or have World Ranking points on the line anyways.

I am not sure it really matters what they call this lot. We are in for a long day on the paddock.....

While this will let Canada know where we stand on the world stage, I would if a thumping will do more harm than good as we go into the RWC.

An Australian player that plays for Aus 'A' is no longer eligible to play for any other country, that doesn't happen with the Baas. I don't know if there is any uncapped player though.

What I meant was, they could call this side 15 Bruce's and some other fella's and it would not chance that we will most likely get fcuked, and proper fcuked.

Really good to see Mitchell back though I may not be saying that in a few weeks.

Are sky gonna show this?

Not sure if it's being shown at all

I believe Fox Sports in Australia might be doing a webcam-esque stream of the match like they did in the Aussie BaaBaas vs 'England XV' last summer, but not 100%

Greg Clarkie tweeted that the game will be covered by a web stream on fox.com.au. Unfortunately that is only available to folks with an aussy ip address. Apparently some kind of proxy thingy is possible but I'm not smart enough to figure out how to do that so I'll be hoping for something on Justin.tv.

No surprise about the exclusion of Scholz, and good to see Dala is back from injury, and of course his Edness taking #9 is comforting. I'm going to say Australian Barbarians 52-16 Canada

Unfortunately I think you are going to be right on the score line. Hopefully, they can keep it close for a while and the crims don't get two or three quick tries that take everyone out of the game early. I hope Trainor gets a good run. He performed well in the CC and would like to see how he goes at this level. Dala is an exciting player who is capable of making great impact off the bench when he is fully healthy.

Oh yea of little faith :D ... i'm sure that Canada will put up a better fight than Little Guy's prediction - the Canadian team has a few more games together as a unit, where as the Aussie Baa Baas could be a little rusty in terms of lack of recent game time together, and players coming back from injury.

... there's also a question of motivation for those Baa Baa players that didn't make the Wallabies squad ... is this match really important to them?

I predict they will run right through Smith. I am not a fan of his.

Smith tends to deliver a good performance in games where Canada has no hope for some reason its the games we can win he pulls out a stinker. I should have preffaced my prediction with a discliamer if Riordan can throw better in the lineout I think the scoreline could be ten points closer. I'm also in a massively negative mood in general day to day life right now so perhaps its better that I am ignored.

I hope you are right on all counts but my suspicion is that the level of play that these Baa Baas play at on a day to day basis is so vastly superior to what our boys get that they will just overwhelm us. 1 magners league player, one t14 and the rest are made up of RFU championship and CRC players verses a team made up of allstar super15 players, the number just don't look good. Honest to God I hope I'm wrong but I don't think so...

Giteau and Horn will be running at him all day. He better eat a good breakfast because he will probably be off solid foods for some time. You aren't ignore at all Little guy I enjoy all you posts about Canadian rugby. I hope the day to day stuff gets better.

Thanks Rusty, I have just been super stressed out right now, its kind of been a dissapointing year for me things haven't really worked out the way I had hoped. (Smith better have about ten bowls of Wheaties before heading out there, might be a long day for Pritchard having to chase down guys if those holes open up)

I haven't had time to update the CRC thread in a while, I know Formerlyfast was keeping the results updated on there, and I caught an archived version of the Bears and Wolf Pack about a week ago. I think Rugby Canada hasn't been showing as many games since they are stretched in resources in an RWC year.

I found this video of the players Canada has selected, useful for any Australian fans or those who haven't seen too much of Canada to get a look at our boys who will be playing at the RWC.

... Thanks Little Guy, I still have problems identifying a few of these guys, and i've seen a few of the matches now ... I actually think that the Canadian backrow might trouble the Baa baas, and might achieve dominance at the breakdown, but the forwards will probably struggle at line out time against Sharpe and Timani

... I wonder how Drew Mitchell will go first game back ... he will be a hard to contain if he finds his best form

I looked at an analysis of the aussie lineup and apparently some of the guys haven't played in some time. so they might not be as sharp as usual after being injured for a while.

Outside of swapping Smith for Evans, this is as good of a Canadian side as it gets. Is this a sign that Evans injury is worse than thought?

(all things considered I stand by my original prediction)
