RWC Warm Up: Canada v. Australian Barbarians

Nice to see the highlights of a pretty decent performance. I guess Mark Bryant isn't a big fan of Smith either, eh? :D

Watching his poor coverage and missed tackles is making me like Evans at 12 more and more. Evans is class in attack and defence, which Smith isn't. Hopefully Evans gets a run around on the paddock in the "controlled scrimmage" against the Queensland Select XV side and is fit for Tonga. No point putting Smith in when he isn't the best option and plans on retiring after the WC anyway. It has to be Evans (or maybe even Trainor).

And apparently the knock Mackenzie picked up isn't as bad as it initially looked. Outside of DTH, he's been our best attacking back.

I agree CDN_Rugby, Evans played #12 in Wales while he was there and many fans thought he was better there than at fullback, and I also think its about getting our best players on the ptich. Pritchard has looked great at FB the last couple of games, and having him there allows Hearn or Paris to be used at #14 or #11. Not sure who to keep on the bench whether it be Smith or Scholz, or maybe keeping them out entirely. Apparently Scholz has also picked up a minor shoulder injury in the last US game.

Agreed with Mackenzie the way he was holding that shoulder looked like a serious injury, but what I have been hearing since things seem to be ok. I'm guessing that will keep him out of the Reds game(scrimmage). I wonder if we will see some of the reserves put into action, e.g. Kyne, Walsh, Paris etc. for Tuesday, I know the last game action many of them saw was vs. the Ontario Blues on the 7th of August.

Lastly I hope I'm not the only one loving the "controlled scrimmage" "opposed training" "quaters run around" sayings that are being thrown around for Tuesdays action. Wink Wink, Nudge Nudge, Say No More, Say No More...

Apparently the score was 33-14 Canada. I'm glad it was a win but not really sure what to take from that result. Prtich tweeted that he got a 30 miunute run at 10 at some point in the game and J. Mackenzie tweeted about being sore and needing a lot of pain killers. J-Mack is the third choice scrum half so I suspect that Sir Ed was rested for this one. It appears that it wasn't our 1st 15 thats for sure.

i think was a case of the coaching staff running players at their cover position, ie: Mackenzie @ 9, Pritchard @ 10, not a bad idea. With the 1/4's there was time to discuss the game and play.

I had just never heard of Pritch in the 10 jumper before. Last year on the November tour Hearn slotted in at 10 once in a pinch but not pritch. I read the game reports from Bedford occasionally and don't recall him putting in any time at 10 there as well.

Apparently the weather was pretty horrendous as well. Yeah I have never heard of Pritch at #10 either rusty, I think I have even seen him at 12 and 13 for Bedford but never #10.

I'm glad the scoreline was in our favour but am more pleased that the guys seem to have appreciated the training session, at least from the post game comments.

Yeah I would think JP would be pretty far down the pecking order as a fill in at 10. It would take a pretty serious run of injury in a single game to see that happen. There is Hirayama coming off the bench then Evans if he was healthy and on the pitch and then Hearn, and then Pritchard. If we get to that point we might as well just hand the ball to the ref and head for the shed. Hopefully someone had a camcorder at the game and we will see a few highlights on youtube by tomorrow.

Just got the sports pack that includes TSN2 from my cable provider and a new giant HD TV. I am just stoked about being able to watch rugby in HD on my TV instead of sitting staring at my tiny laptop screen.
