RWC Semi Final: New Zealand - Australia (16-10-2011, 21:00)

Well I have always been a fan of his style. I like the way he communicates with the players, firm but respectful.

IMO, Joubert is the number one referee in the world, and it will be a travesty if he doesn't get the final, although I suspect he won't because no semi-final referee has ever refereed the final of the RWC.

Is that right? So other than Joubert and Rolland who is there? Owens? Don't tell me Wayne Barnes will get it?!

I thought it would've been good to give the in form ref with a recent high pressure game under their belt the final. Joubert was more accurate and composed than Rolland was in the other semi.

With Joubert you dont get much complaints from both teams, so that says something right there. With other reffs, many feel the need to even up the calls but Joubert calls it straight down the middle, even if it means giving all the calls to one side and thats hard for a reff to do because a reff might feel afraid that it looks like he favours one side, not the case for Joubert. He understands Rugby and whats going on in the game. If it goes sideways its not a knock on for this guy.

Money Bill Williams is surplus to requirements at the moment!

I prefer watching ABs without DC, at least in this tournament - he's probably the best 10 ever, in a classical sense. The structure of the attack is more broken and some players are showing a different side of their game. Apart from a few breaks from Cruden, players outside of 10 seemed to get more ball as first receiver than if DC was playing. The Israelite must be the form player of the tournament and him coming into the backline, as first receiver centre or outside is the biggest threat for the opposition. Can't see how any defence in rugby can deal with him on this form

Who would have thought? Pocock is rather useless when the rules of rugby are applied. Isn't that something? Australia just aren't as good with 15 players as they are with 16. I have never been so happy about a team getting their arses handed to them.

New Zealand, well what can one say. This tournament is yours, and rightfully so. It's been a wonderful tournament, scarred only by 2 major flaws in my opinion. One is that a team who lost 2 pool games, one of which was against a minnow team, is now in the final. A team that is not anywhere near as good as either Australia or South Africa. Then obviously the way in which we were cheated out of the tournament.

If we had made it though, this All Black team would have been just as ruthless. For France to have any hope at all they have to..... um.....er..... no nevermind. They have no hope.

Think it's more that NZ knew how to target him to take him out of the game, like Cooky said
When NZ weren't forcing him in to the bottom of the ruck he was still getting turnovers

Totally agree, but he was still blown when he either went off his feet, didn't support his body weight, or came in from the wrong side, and lastly, not releasing the tackler. Joubert is the best referee in the world.

Against us, Pocock was not blown once throughout the entire match, regardless of what he did.

Anyway, not jacking this thread, and not taking anything away from the All Blacks. They are an amazing side this year, and they are now far beyond a choke. Every factor there was regarding a World Cup has been assured for them in this tournament. They had the best schedule, the home ground advantage, a tough warm up pool game (as well as not facing France in a knock-out game bar the final). They were assured of a NH final, and they gave birth to Bryce Lawrence, ensuring that they wouldn't play South Africa. This tournament has been New Zealand's all the time. Good on them. They deserve it.

Yeah there was no surpBryce there!

I think this AB team is much more balanced than they were in 2007. They have 2 world-class hookers, a massive backrow and with Weepu alone they have a good halfback pairing too.

Cruden does good enough considering his lack of experience... His youthful way of playing suits the centers, especially Nonu. Dagg, Kahui and Jane are players who will be certain starters in any backline around the world. They just have the best squad and their top-players are on the top of their prime... If they don't win it now, they never will

Well you can say the same for the french. They lost at the perfect times : the Tonga loss enabled them to bounce back for the quarters, and the NZ's one should give them motivation for revenge this time ( I would have been worried if they had beat NZ in pool stages, never good to shine too early...). And now their awful game against Wales probably means they can be outstanding next week. It's the first time we get to a final wihout playing excellent in semis. Now is the best chance we ever had of winning a world cup, all the signs are there. After reaching the final twice, and the semis five times, this may be our time at last. We are the only rugby superpower that never won. Sure, it's been a long time NZ didn't win the cup, but at least they did it once.

i can't help but feel sorry for the australians, especially quade cooper. they can hold their heads up high as they didn't play that bad tonight, they were just up against a very inspired all blacks team.

looking forward to next weeks game against wales. i will be backing the ozzies to win, to bad warbourton is not playing, him vs pocock would have been a match up to watch.
