RWC 2011: THE FINAL!!! France vs. New Zealand

Yeah, I just don't like the fact that France will be holding the ***le for the next 4 years... If only the All Blacks could win the final...

Haha pretty sad isn't it, hopefully those great overachieving underdog AB's will pull this one off this time.
I think home ground advantage could help them out a little bit.

Well, if that's the case, I will enjoy the final hours of South Africa being World Champions!
Hmmm, this got me thinking actually.

What if something happened and the final couldn't be played? Say an earthquake in Auckland. They would just postpone I imagine and move to another venue. But what if they couldn't? I'm struggling to come up with a scenario but something like both squads being wiped out or a war breaking out.

Would South Africa remain World Champs?

Or would it be jointly New Zealand's and France's ***le?

Idle musings as I try to fill the void before the final.

true, and I take it on the chin if i maybe cross the line... there's nothing that makes you crawl back in your hole than a private message from another user, or even worse from a moderator... lol...

but if you've been on this forum for a while, it's easy to see who knows their sport, who can take a joke or sarcastic comment, and who are childish and immature...

But mate- leave the name calling out OK? its (hopefully) an adult forum. You don't need to call me a douche, or the other guy an idiot cos you don't like what we have to say.

Back it up with an intelligent comment rather that that kiddy stuff

hahaha harden up you bunch of pussies! its world cup final day! smack talking should now be open to all!

AB's by tree fiddy!

Agree 100%, FFS Rugby Union is a man's sport isn't it haha (Sorry ladies i didn't mean to offend)

I'll say this in advance, cause I ain't had a beer yet.

France lick my Maori sacks! you going down bruv!

That, I don't understand. The overwhelming majority of the French rugby world has nothing but respect for New Zealand and has never directed any scorn at them--England, for sure, South Africa at times (especially after the 1995 semifinal); but Australia and New Zealand are the two rugby powers that no one speaks ill of in France. Heck, even when we beat Australia in 1987 and New Zealand in 1999 and 2007, most French fans admitted that we were the better team only on the day of the match, and if there had been a rematch a week later in 1987, 1999 and 2007, chances are we couldn't have repeated our fantastic performances.

Of all things, we actually have a marked inferiority complex vs. Australia and New Zealand--we always go into matches against them thinking we're not as good as them and it will take a perfect game on our part to come out on top. So scorn? I simply don't see it.

There is no way my comments are directed towards wellmeaning supporters/fans, of which you seem to be I have nothing but respect for you supporting your team and really enjoy and welcome the competition tonight. As a matter of fact, i was in Venice on holiday during the last loss to France in 2007 and a Frenchman came up to me the next day and was almost apologetic for you guys beating us !! What a gracious fella !! So I'm absolutely impressed with fans such as yourself who are gracious and balanced in their views.
My comments about scorn are directed towards smart-Alecs and those who have shown disrespect by deliberately trying to wind up or antagonize NZ Rugby fans of which there have been a few over the years.
Been in Australia and i LOVE the place but over the years the banter from the media about Rugby/sports can get a bit irritating when it comes to Aussies giving it to the kiwisand although I have many great Aussie sports mates who ARE good sports......it's nice to get one back over them 

OMG!!! someone, quickly delete this post lol...

I wonder what John Gallagher (former All Black) wouldve been telling his students all week?....

Agreed. But here's the thing - I really don't think the likes of Richie or Brad or Kev or Jerome go round calling people names. They put you on your ass and then give you a hand up.

One of the best things I ever saw on a sports field was Brad Thorn getting smashed in a huge hit by, I think, Danie Roussow in a test a couple of years back. Thorn got up and shook the guy's hand. Now that is quality. And intimidating as hell.

The way to put a guy on his ass in a forum is to win the argument surely.

It's all about perception don't you think?
When I read that comment I think confidence I don't see arrogance.

It was clearly tongue in cheek anyway. He was just backing his team.

Personally those comments just make me cringe they do nothing but fuel those looking to find offence and do nothing for the game itself given that none of the players involved are going to read it.

Myself I will sit and wait to see what the outcome of the game is and all going well the team that plays the best on the day will win it (too often results have been determined by the ref), as the old maxims goes "better to stay silent and be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt".

[h=1] Time, possession and territory[/h]
  • NZ are 2nd at RWC for 1st half possession with 58%. France has 51% for 1st half possession. Territory is 53% and 47% respectively.
  • NZ's 2nd half possession is 51%. France is averaging 46% for the RWC, one of the lowest in the comp. In the 2nd half territory for France is 47%, 13th lowest. NZ is 57%, 3rd highest.
  • Overall NZ are enjoying 54% and 55% territory, 3rd highest in the RWC. France is averaging 48% and 46%. 16th lowest.
  • Time in opposition's 22 show NZ 3rd highest with 18% of the time, but it is in the 2nd half where they average 21% compared to 13% for the 1st half.
  • France time in the opposition is different. While it is 16% overall and 9th highest it is 18% in the 1st half the 4th highest and 13% in the 2nd half.
  • Both teams have about the same 1st half for the ball in play, France 17:06 min and NZ 17:00 min. Overall NZ can play the faster game and as they showed against Australia they can dictate the pace that suits them.

Spoken like a true Heke... wheres the mods at I wonder?

Weather looks good for tonight, light showers until evening with light winds, ground should be in great nick as always so should be perfect for a good game of rugby. Maybe even a final with a few tries? imagine a final with no drop kicks. Unheard of. Personally I'm picking a new world record for biggest margin in a final, say 30-9 :D

Hey thanks for the clarification! I don't need to wish you luck for tonight, because you're good enough to win without luck--just play your game, and you'll be world champs, no doubt about it. Personally, what I'm hoping for is, of course in my wildest dreams, a France win, but realistically, a well-played, hard-fought game and a more honorable defeat than in the pool stages.

Edit: I still say we lose by 25, but it doesn't cost anything to hope for the best--or even the not so bad ;)

I really hope our boys play well tomorrow and if they do then they should win and that will make me happy.

Now is that arrogant?

Yes that's arrogant because you're implying nobody can beat your team when they play well.

Gotta be realistic mate, not many teams can beat em when they play well. <------ now thats arragont... Or is it?...... sisissss <--- arragont again?

Who bloody cares! some of yous are a bit sensitive on this forum, It's Final's day people, grab a drink, get a slut, tie her up. Let's drop the humble acts and get behind our teams eah?!!

Not saying, or implying, that at all - I'm only talking about this game against this opponent on this day. If we play well then we should win. I don't think that is a particularly controversial thing to say. I am tempted to call it a fact. Not saying that we definitely will win if we play well, just that we should.

Is it arrogant to state a fact?

Had a few now eh Jake? Keep 'em coming sport-if the game is boring at least this forum won't be!

Have to disagree with my fellow countryman here. Arrogant is: "We've already won this game, no need to play it; you guys have been lousy the whole tournament and don't stand a chance against us." The original quote OTOH ("I really hope our boys play well tomorrow and if they do then they should win and that will make me happy.") is the exact opposite. It's stating the obvious (if NZ plays to their normal game, they'll win the final--duh!!!), leaving the door open for a possible surprise (if they don't play well tomorrow, then France has a chance). If you ask me, it's a lot more humble than much of the stuff you hear on NZ talk radio these days--or read on these boards for that matter.
