RWC 2011: THE FINAL!!! France vs. New Zealand

I really hope our boys play well tomorrow and if they do then they should win and that will make me happy.

Now is that arrogant?

Seems to me that the above is pretty much all that most New Zealand supporters are saying.

I LOVE to see the ABs performing well as they have been and silencing some of the scorn that has been directed at them over the years.

That, I don't understand. The overwhelming majority of the French rugby world has nothing but respect for New Zealand and has never directed any scorn at them--England, for sure, South Africa at times (especially after the 1995 semifinal); but Australia and New Zealand are the two rugby powers that no one speaks ill of in France. Heck, even when we beat Australia in 1987 and New Zealand in 1999 and 2007, most French fans admitted that we were the better team only on the day of the match, and if there had been a rematch a week later in 1987, 1999 and 2007, chances are we couldn't have repeated our fantastic performances.

Of all things, we actually have a marked inferiority complex vs. Australia and New Zealand--we always go into matches against them thinking we're not as good as them and it will take a perfect game on our part to come out on top. So scorn? I simply don't see it.

yes but why the aggresiveness and arrogance towards everyone else on the forum?? It's the World Cup final!! of course people are going to talk crap about an opposing team or the team you don't want to win...

it's certainly not the fault of the members of TRF that NZ has had a 24 year WC drought, nor is it the members' fault that France has never won the WC...

If you can't take the knocks, then don't play the game... this rule applies to life, rugby and comments made on TRF!

Haha, I agree with you, but it works both ways!!!!

I wasn't directing this comment at you, but in general, its all about perception today.

true, and I take it on the chin if i maybe cross the line... there's nothing that makes you crawl back in your hole than a private message from another user, or even worse from a moderator... lol...

but if you've been on this forum for a while, it's easy to see who knows their sport, who can take a joke or sarcastic comment, and who are childish and immature...

...NZ has had a 24 year WC drought...
No it hasn't. We were the current World Champions before we lost the semi-final on October 27th 1991. So a win tonight means there was less than 20 years between reigns.

Just sayin'

man well done on the copy paste skills! Everyone, please give this guy a round of applause for trying to be over technical...

every person except you see it that NZ WON the WC in 1987, hence, that's when the period started, immediately the moment after the World Cup... and it has been 24 years since 1987 that you have won it the last time...

If you want to be so over technical, then South Africa are still the World Champs, even though they have been knocked out 2 weeks ago, the tournament is still in process and nobody else has won it since 2007... but if you talk to any sane rugby supporter they'll tell you that the Boks already lost it, and that they aren't still the Champs according to your dumbass statement which i have read numerous times before...

That may be true - actually probably is true - as far as French rugby writing goes. I don't honestly know - I don't get to see a very large sample of French rugby writing and I guess it would be the same for most Kiwis.

But the English press in particular but also the South African and Australian press has always been more than happy to put the boot into the All Blacks and all who support them.

Well that's why I said before the semi because that's when we got knocked out. If I had said before the final then your point would be correct. But I didn't so it's not.

Never argue with an idiot, they bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience...

Just saying...

hahahahahahahahahahahaahha you crack me up

Man it will be such a downer if we lose tonight. Everything just seems so perfectly setup for the All Blacks to finally be World Champions again.

We are playing so well at the moment and everything about the team seems to be the way it should be (even given the absence of Carter and McCaw's injury).

Beating France in the final would, I think, really put that bogeyman to bed for a while. The whole France v NZ rugby history will have a great new chapter written but a win would mean we can stop seeing France as our World Cup nemesis.

But it is the legacy of some of the individuals involved that I really want to see cemented - Henry and McCaw in particular. I see members of previous world cup winning sides - the likes of Fitzpatrick, Eales, Johnson, Pienaar, and I think if there has ever been a player deserving of being in that club it is McCaw.

Too many hours to go until kickoff and no chance of sleep. Tension building and I can't wait :)

sir you truly are a master of wordplay

Name calling - really? Ok then, I'll stop.

I'll play mediator and simplify things. You are like a dog with a bone, you don't give up haha, it is very humorous to me.

Technically the last time we were World Champs was in 1991, however we have NOT WON A World Cup SINCE 1987, HENCE 24 YEAR DROUGHT.

Well, if that's the case, I will enjoy the final hours of South Africa being World Champions!

Yeah, yeah - dog, bone. Sure, why not.

Here, I will concede half a point - we have been waiting 20 years (just under actually *chew chew gnaw gnaw*) to be World Champs again, but we have been waiting 24 years to win another World Cup. Ok?

Yeah, I just don't like the fact that France will be holding the ***le for the next 4 years... If only the All Blacks could win the final...
