Rugby 2005

f***!!!!!! When are they gonna give us just the tinniest taste of this game???? It's supposedly 5 months away and they haven't released so much as a statement on their website! let alone bloody video's and screenshots!!!
Two schools of thought here:

1. They should hold their cards close because of the backlash of Rugby 2004.
2. They should start giving little tastes (screenshots etc) to show that they've progressed and the game will be awesome.

Right now, it looks as if they're subscribing to number 1. Plus, with the anticipation, they'll be building hype very quickly and I don't think we'll see stuff until Christmas or just after.

But what do I know, I'm a figment of everyones imagination.

5 months is quite a long time really. Rugby 2004 had information coming out early, but Cricket 2004 had basically nothing about it until very late in its progress (I think, I didn't follow it's build up very closely).

I agree with captainamerica, just before or after Christmas is probably when we'll see stuff.

I am still hopeful that the game wil be released in March. To be a "2005" ***le, I would say the latest any game could come out would be March/April i.e. Cricket 2004. EA are not Eidos, they know how to work to a deadline. In addition, EA regularly release games around spring time - Tiger Woods used to come out at this time before it was bumped up to an autumn release. What else do they have? Maybe FIFA Street? Any half decent rugby game would sell well (see WCR) so it's in EA's best interests to release a good quality game on time. That's what I'm hoping anyway!

I'm pretty sure any rugby game would sell well if it's given the right marketing (see Rugby 2004). It got 1/2 a million sales didn't it?

Anyway, I think it will be released somewhere around March (probably early May) since the Playstation Australia site has it at March.

sorry i cant be bothered reading all the posts before this page but the 1st one on this page says they havnt mentioned anything about the game on their site.. if they havnt said anythin then how do we kno there's even a game coming out soon... i do realise this question wud probably hav been answered earlier on in the thread.. but theres too many pages to read all of the posts and find the answer to my question

They had an official release thing, where people actually saw the game.

If you want to visit my site, it has links to very early previews.

That's a pretty cool wesbite you've got there.

I hadn't realised Rugby 2005 was coming out on Xbox as well. Has that been officially confirmed?

The right thumbstick as the big hit sounds like they've lifted it straight from Madden 2005, which isn't a bad thing. I don't see why they can't lift more stuff from Madden, like tackle animations, etc, but I guess there are copyright issues.

It comes down to different studios and stuff, plus EA's deal with the NFL, for example, might include some Madden exclusive features

The only thing we can be sure about really is that it will look a lot better with the FIFA engine (gone will be the "dung heaps with eyes" from rugby 2004).

The other thing we are aware of is that they seem to be adding extra features (ie. the haka, fights??), so I'd assume from that is the basic gameplay/match engine is complete??

Either way the gameplay is the major concern. Being handed the FIFA engine SHOULD have advanced their development by some margin, so a March release sounds about right to me.

We can only hope for a decent game, but we should all HIRE before we buy, or else we could again be rewarding EA with very good sales figures for what may again turn out to be a very bad game.

Huh?

Rugby 2001 was initially scheduled to be the official pc game of the '99 world cup.As for the 2004 'masterpiece',releasing a beta version almost on time, without even a patch afterwards, doesn't really count as meeting a deadline.

To be fair, I was thinking more of EA's autumn line up...Madden, Fifa, NHL etc - ALWAYS released on time.

found this, pretty recent... maybe info is not too far off?
