RBS 6 Nations - Wales vs Italy- 10/03/2012, 14:30

Interestingly I don't get the same impression that Wales is going mad for this campaign like they were in 2005 and 2008. Getting bored of going for slams? Maybe the World Cup success spoiled us...
We're not because we haven't been brilliant throughout a single game, from 0-80 minutes. Our best performance was against Ireland, we turned up for 15 minutes to beat Scotland, the England game could have gone either way, the Italy game was completely forgettable. Our other campaigns had memorable moments and gorgeous rugby that meant we could get excited and behind a winning team.
2005 was just brilliant - that brand of rugby was incredible and we were just too much for teams. We could win 69 more Grand Slams before I die, but that will always be my favourite.
Similarly in 2008 there were seminal moments - like the first win at Twickers in 20 years and the professional way we closed out the Ireland game.

There's nothing like that to really remember this campaign, we've just plodded along, doing the business when we've needed to to just stay that much ahead of the competition. Even the Ireland away win this time was something of a smash-and-grab. If we do France by 40 however, I might have to re-appraise the situation... ;)

Well, it is, considering the last Grand Slam before that was 27 years previous. France, England, etc, don't feel the need to mention their myriad throphies because they have so many of them. They judge success in World Cups, not Six Nations trophies. Wales' standards are just lower, I suppose. :D

Thats not the point SaintJay is making, he's saying that sort of talk doesn't help

Another thing why don't they just eradicate the contested scrums, and make it like in league? It is highly frustrating that a great proportion of the game is taken up by scrums - it gets boring.

Because then it would be Rugby League...<_<

This.

My Dad always mentions the '76 G-word S-Word, He says that was the best of them all that he has seen and he has seen 5 ('71, '76, '78, '05 and 08). For me 2005 was by far the best, as Cyril says we played well in all 5 games ans excited the neutrals

Gatland did not help the cause at all yesterday with his comments after the game and in the press conference that followed to be honest.

I do not think the potential talk of "We have won the grand slam three times in eight years" is helping. The French feel no need to mention how many times they have won the six nations ***le and god forbid any Englishman if he mentions how many trophies England have won in the past.

I am not sure people mind Wales winning I think not everyone is convinced by all the hype about how amazing they are.

Do you not change the record? Same thing in almost every thread about Wales this year.

I don't think there's anything wrong with talking about the Grand Slam now we're approaching the last game. The math is simple really, win and we've secured another slam, lose and we haven't.

I found Cuthbert's comment after the match yesterday a little cringeworthy, 'We'll take one game at a time, and not think about the Slam'. He was obviously just spewing out what he's been told to say when the words Grand Slam crop up in interviews, forgetting for a moment that there's only one game left.

I thought that too Dull.
Just a quick question for the non-Welsh on here: IF we do win next Saturday will we be allowed to talk about winning the Grand Slam on here or will we have to go down Walkabout on St Mary's Street and make sure no English, Irish or Scots can hear us gloating, cocky wankers?

Orrr...

We can not give a flying **** what they complain about and enjoy the possible success like we deserve to

Ahhh ... good to see Austin Healy is once again a knowledgeable pundit.

I saw that, was tempted to reply to inform him of my disagreement but decided I'd only confuse him by using words of 2 or more syllables.

...How'd you figure that out? It wasn't a penalty... =/

Oh I am so sorry mate would you rather I say how great Wales are and agree with all you say.

I was replying to a comment about why people are negative about Wales winning.

So at what point have I ever mentioned a Gatland press conference before?. At what point have I ever mentioned talk of three grand slams before. If you don't like me saying that prehaps people don't think Wales are amazing that's not my problem.

Pahahaha ... fool.

I am going to take this thread on a tangent. I have not mentioned how great have been and never have I asked anyone to 100% agree with me. Plain childish on your part. Also going over old ground for you we came to the conclusion that TFJ was the only member to come out and be in your face about Wales.

On the other point ... you did twice previously post in in this thread about the press conference.

Yep I did mention it twice today in regards to why people are getting upset with Wales winning. Which was brought up as a valid point as to why people might be getting funny. I am not saying they are right or having a pop at Wales. If you think I am being childish then asking someone to change the record and then calling them a fool is what?
