RBS 6 Nations - England vs Wales - 25/02/2012, 16:00

I thought the same, surely Walsh should / could have gone back to the penalty advantage.
Yeah, I was thinking that. Walsh asked if the try line incident happened after the clock was up, but if the advantage was ongoing that was irrelevant. Happened in another match lately - HEC?

In the Ireland Italy match Joubert called "advantage over" on an Ireland penalty after 5 seconds when Ireland were still behind the gain line. Hmmm.

its mostly the media, but there are plenty of people I know who are talking about wales being 2015 winners

Like I've said in a previous post, the media love to build people/teams up, only to bring them down to earth for the benefit of a dramatic story.

What every 6N fan should be happy about is that this years championship looks to be really competitive, not only within NH rugby but I think we'll be competitive on a world stage.

The question is how long do you play advantage for ? Wales had a penalty in front of the post in the second half, continued playing and was turned over ... should the ref have brought it back ?

Initial thoughts...

Well done Wales, they held their nerve and rode a rocky period well, they show some real promise for the future even if as a whole they were somewhat poor today. Kudos.

I thought England stepped up, not enough but reasonably hopeful. Attack showed glimpses, the defence was brutally efficient.

I was partially wrong on Farrell. Still not massively creative, but a few nice mispasses and a good pass. Dickson didn't make it easy for him at times; he may be our best scrum-half at current but I wasn't overly impressed, still give him time.

Morgan seemed to fade after a promising start, I'm not sure Robshaw knows the meaning of the word.

We'll now see how the other two go.

If care hadn't been discounted (fairly) he would be a boost, and I would give Joe Simpson a shot, he can't be worse than youngs.

I meant no offence to you, don't get me wrong, justone or two friends been getting a bit obnoxious of late

So that classifies all of Wales ... ... that simply does not add up.

I'm sure there are many on here who have done a refereeing course and understand the rule of advantage.

(a) The referee is sole judge of whether or not a team has gained an advantage. The referee has wide discretion when making decisions.

(b) Advantage can be either territorial or tactical.

(c) Territorial advantage means a gain in ground.

(d) Tactical advantage means freedom for the non-offending team to play the ball as they wish.

The last one is important. It basically means the fact a team has had a phase of play could be enough to be deemed as advantage, whether you go back, forwards, score, knock on or throw an interception. It's of the discretion of the referee.

I never said it was all of wales, and I really feel sorry for you being let down by those who do say these things but there some high profile supporters/players who are being particularly arrogant such as Jonathan Davies (the pundit) saying that wales would crush england, and one of the players who said wales were going to twickenham to humiliate england.

I don't understand the logic in this. Yes it was not a try as it was indecisive, but why did he not go back for the penalty advantage? I'm really disappointed with that cause I'm sure England could of bagged a try. As for the rest of the decisions, I just feel it is so cheap that people give away professionally decisions. Rhys Priestland should get red carded for that in my opinion, it just is against all the morals in sport for one, and secondly what are kids going to think watching that? If he had not tackled Corbisiero off the ball England probably would have scored. But enough lamenting.

England can be really proud with this performance and move into the France game with a real confidence. The new starters, and particularly Farrell, played extremely well. The team seemed to show that it was proud to be wearing the jersey, unlike recent years. I think we have finally got our centres sorted out with Barrit - Tuilangi. As for the subs, why oh why bring Ben Youngs on. When he came on it seemed that all of England's attacking flair just died away, or left the field with Dickson. He is playing so poorly at the moment its hard to watch! First touch of the ball he passes it to Flood's feet. As for Flood, well I didn't think he played at his best, and I'm sure Farrell will start next game as well. Morgan again proved to be a strong ball carrier. All in all I think England have a real chance of pushing on from here and winning against Ireland at home at least if not France (depending on what team shows up and how they play tommorow!).

Lancaster should stay coach in my opinion. I don't think it will do the players any good having a change in coach, and quite frankly Lancaster has done a good job. He brought in many new players as many people hoped he would, and then made vital changes that were needed that might not have happened with previous coaches. He also really seems to have a good connection with the team, and they actually look like a team, where as last years England looked like a bunch of players playing for money. I think Lancaster has brought this philosophy in and I'm rooting him to stay until after RWC2015!

As above Jack, the fact that England had a phase of play in which they advanced 5-10 meters past the line of infringement, crossed the try line and had a chance to ground the ball was deemed as advantage by Steve Walsh. Which within the law was correct.

Iain Ramages decision for the grounding is another matter. But let's not forget both teams had this ref and both had chances to score.

Not much similar to Guscott in 2008 then?

Look I'm not English I'm South African, and when The English players/supporters were being so arrogant I disliked them as much, possibly more. And I'm not saying your side is bad I just don't like the arrogance.

Oh stop being so defensive. You know as well as I that what Davies said during the week was silly and only likely to get under people's skins. He's annoying git at the best of times. Then there's people (like Toby Faletau-Jones) running round saying it'd be an embarrassment if Wales don't hammer England. Russdog didn't say that all Welsh people were going round being cocky, just a few.

And I am pointing out that it's happened before and hardly a fuss was created. He also only said a few when he was challenged about the remark.

Well Wales didn't hammer England so they should be embarrassed. Any one to hammer any one in the 6 nations now is a rarity that is getting rarer. Arrogant people like Toby Faletau-Jones are just clueless nationalists, where as people like Jonatahan Davies are just extremely annoying and biased at the worst of times.

I would say that at their peak the all blacks back row was better but I would pick harinodoqay in a world side and mccaw is definitely past his peak, and dusotoir has not yet reached his peak and is already as good as Pocock, so I would say overall france's is now better

Dusautoir is 30. Pocock is 23.

Well Wales won. Try reading the comments above before you post. And try some decent sarcasm. Just because you won doesn't change the fact that Welsh pundits were arrogant before the game had started. Arrogance is arrogance, and should not be in sport, neither should professional fouls.
