RBS 6 Nations - England vs Ireland - 17/03/2012 - 17:00

Ice cold dude. Cold. ****, Munster will be less scarred by this than Ulster. Hopefully it just makes Ferris mad...

Understandable. Having considered the matter, I have decided that if Kidney hadn't spent so long trying to develop Buckley/clinging onto Hayes for dear life and had given some of that game time to Court at tighthead/at all, he might be a bit better at it - Court has 29 caps but less than 800 minutes on the pitch, both Healy and Ross clocked that up this season alone! So there we go. Kidney is at least slightly culpable after all.

Kidney's failure to try out new props is one of the more glaring mistakes of his era. Neither Court nor Hagan were given a sniff at TH, while Buckle and Hayes were persisted with until it was blindingly obvious that change was needed. Now we're in a situation where Mike Ross might last another year or two but there is no replacement with any considerable international experience at TH. Short term thinking at its finest.

H
artley cited. Will be interesting to see whether he gets a ban, or if the citing is just a token gesture as the complain was made.

After reading what Nigel Owens said to the captains about there being bite marks and telling Ferris he has done all he can and the matter will get dealt with after the game I think on that alone they will look to take some action, and if they now have proof of it well I think he should get a lenghty ban and maybe removed from the England elite squad alltogether for any future games, biting anyone is not one no matter what level of sport you are playing at.

I wonder what evidence they have. There wasn't any conclusive video footage

This is what Owens said about it
Owens did not see the incident but confirmed to the two captains, Chris Robshaw and Rory Best, that it would be looked into after the match.

Addressing Robshaw and Best, Owens said: "I have an accusation of biting, a clear mark on the finger.

"I did not see something. If I do it will be dealt with severely, which would be a red card.

"It could be dealt with afterwards. If it is seen it will be dealt with. I did not see it."

Its a minimum of 12 weeks to 4 years if found guilty.

A biting offence carries a low end entry point of a 12-week suspension, with 18 weeks for mid-range and 24-plus weeks at the top end in the International Rugby Board's disciplinary sanctions table.
The maximum sanction is a four-year punishment.

Hartley himself has been bitten before ...

regardless of what actually happened with ferris and hartley

the wannenburg incident is hardly a foul play bite
he pulls the guys head back via his teeth with his arm

The crucial difference is that-

Hartley is accused of something
Celtic fans: He's a vile cheating ******* and it's typical of him.

Hartley is the victim of something
Celtic fans: He clearly provoked it. Vile cheating *******. Clearly he got his comeuppance.

Any other player
Celtic Fans:
Blah blah blah we don't care potato potato potato...

I think you'll find that you've missed out the crucial middle picture. I've included it to clear the issue up:

Ferris seems to be pulling Hartley back via his face. If a hand would be pulling my head back via my mouth/eyes/nose I'd give it a little warning.

From those images you simply cannot cite anyone. I'd hope there are better angles for the citing commissioner to work with, because if it were biting then a long ban would be deserved. I really didn't rate Hartley in the past and felt he should have served bans for his cheap shot on McCaw etc., but this 6N he's been the standout hooker - may be controversial but on playing I'd say the Lions jersey is his to lose right now.

Reverse it and ban Ferris for gouging..... He can sit out Ulster's Heineken Cup game as punishment :p

Usually the reason someone gets bitten is because they are trying to snap someone's neck or they have their hand in someone else's face. If your hands are trapped sometimes a nip is your only option. Not particularly nice I agree but understandable as it's not nice being defenceless. If that's all that happened here a ban would in my opinion be harsh. If it was more than that and it was unprovoked then he deserves whatever is coming.

i still can't see how they can ban hartly based on the video footage (can't show under rucks/scrums). Also i dont think hartley would bite his finger UNLESS ferris was doing something as well (e.g putting his hand on his face).

You can't ban someone WITHOUT looking at what actually happened from all camara angles.
