I tend to agree with you Cyril, however I dont think we can underestimate the Wasps factor in this lions tour ;)

Which is why Cipriani will be going as 3rd fly half.

In Geech's last tour as coach, he made some left of centre calls such as selecting Will Greenwood, Paul Wallace and Eric Miller to go on tour. Without doubt there'll be one or two more "baffling" calls this time out. Who do you think some of those players could be? I'm going to restrict a couple of my dark horse picks to players who are currently out of the international reckoning.

Ceri Jones and Mike Ross of Harlequins have been cornerstones of a pack which has demolished pretty much every opponent this year. With the derth of top propping options (other than Adam Jones, Euan Murray and, debateably, Andrew Sheridan), I think one of these guys could be an outside bet to tour.[/b]

Stop ignoring Gethin Jenkins he is twice the player Sheridan is![/b][/quote]
I don't know how I forgot Jenkins. He's in with a great shot at starting.

There's no question who I'd take to SA out of Halfpenny and Sackey!![/b]

Who?

I said above the if Sackey toured it would be a disgrace. I actually meant Easter so apologies for that.

Having said that if Sackey tours it would actually be a disgrace.

Amen x2

I don't think there'll be any big shocks at wing, if Halfpenny goes I wont be suprised, same goes for Moyne, both have played well from what ive seen post-6N. Strettle might be an outside bet but I think he's too far down the pecking order.

The spots with the most potential for non-regular internationals are probably prop and scrum half, and thats because aside from Gethin Jenkins noone has stood up and demanded a spot in those positions. With a small squad I can't see many big shocks outside of those, more just people we thought might go but really shouldnt, like Easter and Sackey.

I'm really liking the sound of Strettle. The more I think of it the more he has "dark horse" painted all over him.

Chances are he will just get injured 5 minutes into the first warm up match though.

Cipriani...hmmmmm, undeserved but I could see it being made.
Ross Rennie, I don't know...I like him, I've never seen him play badly I don't think...if he could like not be injured. Personal bias.
Andy Farrell? :p

Hey who knows, maybe Rui Tipoki (sp?)....:D

He is as Irish as Flutey is English, Plus, he has a 100% win record in Lions game AFAIK :p.

Seriously, I have heard a rumour that Rua has played his last game of Professional rugby :( His knee is f***ed, I don't know if it is just someone who has copped on to the fact that he has had to be replaced three times this season after pulling up with a knee injury despite there been no contact with his knee, or if they know someone in the Munster setup.

Paul Warwick and Lifemi Mafi shoul start for the Lions though!

He's back playing for Brive so anything is possible. I really do think hes a dark horse because there has been no real stand out hooker for any of the home nations.

I don't think it's way outside the realms of possibility, but it's not like he has been setting the world alight either, and the potential choices have plenty of experience between them so I think it might be just going a little too far.

Still say Best - appropriately enough - is the best option at 2.

think he should tour as his scrummaging is probably going to be needed at some stage and his throwing is more consistent than others who are being mentioned plus his defence is rock solid but the big downside for him is that he's probably gone under the radar of the 3 amigos.

When discussing the Munster/Ospreys game in the rugby club today (Special guest was Shaun Edwards) Will Greenwood made a comment about Keith Earls and Alan Quinlan being possible Lions bolters, Edwards said "Were you in the meeting room with us yesterday?" or something like that

I think Thom and Max Evans should go dueto their scintillating Glasgow form...

well max evans had the disadvantage of being stuck behind our Brian and Tom Shanklin for the 13 jersey, both of whom are playing very well. Can he play 12 or on the wings because it seems unlikely that they'll bring 3 second centres. I'd have no problem with Thom going, but wouldn't get near the test team imo.

Max Evans can play both 13 and on the wing but I think he could be a good mid-week player. Also, I'm not ruling out any player on the tour for making the test team. The players have to play well enough to get a test spot, so I think it should be really open.
