Offensive Team Names

i'm sure you come from a good place, but you realize you are a white person (correct me if I'm wrong) telling a minority that they shouldn't be offended and that you are the one that decides what is racist and not the people who are the subject of such racism?

Why is it that white people are always being slandered as racists? But it doesn't apply to other races when they say racist things about white people?? We as "white people" are also a race.

Just because of historic events, doesn't give any race the right to make any racist remark about another race.

You do know that white people in South Africa are a minority??

Also, just to get back to the term of coloured. In South Africa it is perfectly acceptable term, it's even on our documents as one of the ethnicities of choice, which mostly refers to "brown" people or people of mixed race.

I'm just going to use not-white now seams a lot easier. Usually I'd just refer to someone by their actual skin colour or race if describing them which as long as I'm not using derogatory language that's fine in my book. Just caught out by trying to find a catch all term. Also yeah it appear the term coloured is a regional one not fine in America, fine in SA, who bloody knows elsewhere.

As to racism I don't know anyone who wouldn't condemn it if they saw it perpetuated on whites certainly in this country we've seen it against ethnic poles. This issue mainly is the majority can protect themselves, minorities need to be protected by the majority to make sure others in the majority don't oppress the minority. The reason why it appears that only whites get called out on it? We're the majority in Europe, Canada & USA which has the largest worldwide media penetration. Seriously apart from possibly fundamental muslims (not sure I'd called it racism though) I've never seen cohesive sustained attacks of people of a British ethnicity in this country.

Why is it Exeter cannot win the premiership?

Too many Chiefs and not enough Indians.

I'll get my coat...

Now, now.......you know what happens to naughty people who put their heads above the parapet.......!!!

V good though!!!

Meanwhile back in the real world: a black comedian can cast his racist BS worldwide just because some complete numpty liberal who likely runs CNN thought it was a good idea. (my actual thoughts on the matter go alot deeper than this but would be passed off as a CT on here)

Ugh they put him on television because people watch it and it makes them money you dolt. Not to push some liberal agenda. If he stopped making them money he'd be gone.

Why do you think BBC defended the very in unPC Jeremy Clarkson for years of minor and stupid controversies? He was making them tons of cash.

Money that's all that matters to these people.

All this white privilege.

Damn.

Mind I was told I had straight privilege the other day.

The whole privilege thing is getting OTT.

Privilege I'm finding is the left's political correctness. A catch all phrase that is rapidly having little or no meaning just to dismiss someone's opinion outright.

Not that I don't understand the concept and there is a point there but I think most people miss it by miles.

It's not our fault our forefathers gave us that privilege...

Had such a big laugh reading the last few posts, can't believe it's under this topic....and because of the 7's I thought all people from GB suck!

Just to NOT get in trouble with the mods........"How about them bad team names huh?"

Ah yes white male privilege. That would be the demographic with the highest suicide rate, amount of combat deaths and occupancy of dangerous manual jobs wouldn't it?

Yup that's the one!

Honestly though it's good to remember that from birth the cards are heavily stacked in our favour to how life will turn out for us other demographics are nowhere near as lucky.
However equally we have very real problems that need to be addressed and can't just be dismissed because life dealt us a decent hand to begin with.

On the other thing about remembering you come from privileged background is the other people didn't and maybe life isn't treating them well at all and they may need more help than you. Also you have little understanding of what they have to go through.

Sadly people use privilege "ah but you come from a privileged background you can't have an opinion on this or anything else."

If GB sucks what does that make SA?

yes i know in south africa white people are the minority but that has nothing to do with what we are talking about since this is a white irishman telling a native american how they feel

in fact nothing i said was anything about how you can't be racist to white people or anything of the like

i am simply stating that we shouldn't be telling anyone how they should feel, and we shouldn't discount their feelings just because they disagree with ours

i don't tell black people or poor white people how they should feel about their situation since I have no idea what is like to be in their shoes.
so instead of next time dismissing their opinion just cause you don't like it, why don't you ask them why they feel that way. at the very least, they feel as if their voice is being acknowledged and not pushed aside. at most, you may see their point of view

and what does this have to do with removing someone's agency through the dismissal of their opinions?

Privilege is a fantastic concept for talking about racial, gender etc. inequalities at an extremely broad level, in an academic setting. There is no doubt that sociologists have a great use for it in their jargon.

But when it is used as a put down, oh my god, the amount of internal sighing I do at some people of the same political persuasion as me.

It's utterly divisive which makes things that much harder for minority rights, and it makes some extremely broad assumptions about the person that it is being levelled at. Men in general may live under better circumstances than women in general, but the idea that the most affluent and healthy woman, with their dream job and a dream family, could tell a man with nothing that because of their male status, they have it better? That's where I am lost.

Its the weekend! Going to drink some ale of colour and remember what life was like when i didnt have some real problems in my life like the people who think a name of a rugby club is a real problem when it really ****ing isnt
