NRL's star, Jarryd Hayne to the NFL

The RLWC is a joke, that's a fact

Highest ever average crowds and revenue in 2013, so not as much of a joke as you think. Would be wise to do a bit of research before dismissing something because you don't like it.

And good luck to the Hayne Train - he definitely has the speed.

The fact that every team aside from Australia, England, and NZ are full of players who aren't even from their nations. Its a great spectator sport and was marketed well. But know don't rate the tournament sorry.

What are you talking about? They had record attendances and record TV viewings last year.

I've seen some games and most of the stadiums were empty. I think the grand final was the only stadium sold out. Perhaps the previous record was very very low, because I was impressed by the few people in the stadiums.

The RLWC can't survive outside Australia or England, even in New Zealand wouldn't succeed. A tournament with only two viable places isn't attractive to sponsors.

Me too, he's going to waste his time in USA. What the hell has on his head? His best chance is the RWC. It's the third most important sport event. F*cking asshole

His best chance to what?

Not sure how he's a f*cking asshole. There was something he's always wanted to do and he's giving up a lot to try and to do it. The audacity..

I went to five games last year and would have gone to more had I had the time. Most of the games were played in front of good crowds, there was the occasional dud but plenty of very, very good crowds. What you deem to be good and what RL deems to be good are possibly two different things.

The tournament wouldn't last outside of the three big nations, of course not, but that's not our sport's remit.

Who the hell do you think you are? Are you his bloody Agent? Or his Mother? He wants to play in the NFL, good luck to him.

Samoa and Tonga say otherwise. Quite a few home grown Fijians as well. We can't grow the sport in countries unless they have an international team, and if we have to pad them out with international wildcards then so be it.

Slightly OT but always thought that if croft added a little more mass he would make a fine receiving Tight End (ala Jimmy Graham)

To be more famous around the world and earn more money. Sonny Bill Williams has 391,679 followers in Twitter, Jarryd has 90,991.

He will lose his time in USA while in Union he would have a great chance to become a superstar as Folau or SBW.

Here in South America Sonny Bill Williams is well-known, even by people who isn't part of world rugby, while Jarryd is a complete unknown, only a few crazy rugby supporters (Like me) know him.

The next WC will be the biggest in history, Jarryd could be more famous than SBW

Who's to say he'd be good enough at rugby union to get in the Wallabies team?

And if you take off in the NFL, you take off. And I REALLY hope that he does.

Maybe he doesn't care about fame or fortune and just wants to chase his dream? If you had a chance at a life long dream, would you let it slip?

Despite the crisis of the ARU, they achieved a third in the last WC. With a lot less money and infrastructure that the RFU, they have made more things.

With him in the team we are talking about: Jarryd Hayne, JOC, Henry Speight and Folau. They could be more dangerous even than ABs. I know the problem of Australia is now the second row (Their front row with Kepu and Slipper much improved). But only three teams have best second rows than them: NZ, SA and England. They will face against the English in the pool, then there are only NZ and SA.

It's only two games, they can win. They have already eliminated South Africa in the last WC, NZ will be the great rival.

We are talking about Jarryd Hayne, a f*cking NRL superstar. He could destroy any defense in Union, by the similarity of the codes, he has a great opportunity in Union, not in the NFL.

Again - how do you know? He might be an excellent NFL player in the making. I don't know that he is going to be just as you don't know if he is. Ultimately, nobody knows. But someone from the NFL sees a lot of potential in Hayne, because this has been on the cards for 12 months at least.

TBF the RLWC tv ratings might have been records - but let's compare them to the 6N.

England's SF vs the Kiwis got 2.3m peak viewers.

The highest peak of the 2013 6nations was the Eng/Wales game which drew 9.4m peak viewers.
The lowest was the Fra/Ita game which drew 4m peak viewers.

If you look at BBC1/2's ratings anything that is shown on a sat/sun is guaranteed to get at least 2 million viewers.

To be fair on the RLWC it's pointless comparing the two (I know you're not), last years WC was excellent in comparison to the previous ones. that's what's really important for the game, not beating union.

That's what I'm saying. He seems to me an idiot for wanting to go to the NFL, maybe because I'm a rugby supporter. For me, the RWC is bigger than the NFL, and I'm not talking about money. But hey, it's your mindset, I don't share his thought. It's just that I would have liked to see him play in our sport.

I like the NFL too, I have several posts in the thread of this forum and this year is my second participation in NFL Fantasy, but rugby is the most beautiful sport of all

I'm a rugby supporter and I think he should do what he wants and what makes him happy. He obviously really wants this, as TRF_Saints says above, it's been a long time coming and he's had interest from the NFL.
He's not an idiot for following his dreams and not yours.

The Superb Owl eclipses the RWC.

If you look at just the money, I'm sorry there is no comparison. Aaron Rodgers makes $22,000,000, i know that is unlikely to happen to Hayne but still compared to Wilkinson who was on $916,800 a year. If he plays as a running back (and is successful) he could make $5,000,000 +

I'm an NFL follower, obviously I know the NFL salaries. My point is: For him it would be easier to become a Rugby Union star than an NFL star. At best, he would get a contract with a small team, or he would be a second option on a big team. I don't see him in the Top 10 of the best WR. American football is a very specific sport, each player has a specific function so it's difficult to stand out if you don't have years of playing the sport. He will never get the salary of Calvin Johnson, but he could get a salary similar to the Wilkinson's salary in Union, plus more advertising contracts than League

He clearly doesn't want that, though.
Why are you so adamant about it? He could've easily gotten a contract with a Union side if he wanted, he he wants to go the NFL.
