Munster v Saints

Epic scrum there, fair f***s to Varley for having the balls to go for the strike against the head, and pull it off twice in a row!

Northampton were very impressive, definitely not just the latest GP flavour of the month, the real deal, at least in the making. Can't but help thinking with Myler at 10 it would have been a different story, why pick Geraghty and then tell him to stand deep and kick all the time?

Hayes time is nearly up I'm afraid, It's usually the small guys he struggles against, but just outmuscled by tiny today. Nearly time we follow Ulster and Leinster and but a top quality foreign tighthead, Ireland are f***ed :(

Woohoo! 12 in a row, bring on the QF'S! :D

Well lads just back from Thomond,

Must say atmosphere was brill and Saints fans are some craic.
As for the game well I glad we made it by as was said already if Myler had started 10 we could've been swearin on results from tomorrow.

The scrum was bad today and line-out very bad until Varley came on. I think Varley should be our #2 if Fla out simply because we need to be winning lineouts as it am area we are good at and Varley is best with Darts out of our choices.
Also I really hope something happens and Du Preez returns as we need him badly. But although we didn't play well I thought our defense was immense tonight and Quinny still has a big amount to offer as he was the stand-out player tonight.
ROG was also very good tonight and made few tackles at vital times and made a break or 2 while kicking his goals. I would'vee gave Strings 10mins though tonight as TOL seem to loose all confidence after been charged but all in all I happy with result.

As for Saints they are a very good team but Geraghty was bad tonight and it a thing like that which could harm a guys career. Courtney Lawes was a spectator tonight but that simply because he a second row and that where he should be put.

Munster should get WP Nel from the Cheetahs and I wouldn't be surprised to see du Preez return: nobody wants to be based in Bloemfontein. What that would mean for developing Irish props at international level, i don't know, though.

Well, they won the game against the Springboks while getting hammered at scrumtime and we also had a successful year when you consider that we had a hooker pack down at tighthead most of the year and probably the worst front row (scrum wise) in SA (all Sharks front row) playing for the Bokke. Does that mean scrumming power is not all that important?

Would be great to have Du Preez return as he is a top-drawer player and I sure if he did return it'd aid all young props alot as they'd see his techniques (which are good) up close and develop that way. I worry that Horan will still be under-prepared come April as I can't see Healy been dropped from Irish team as he doesn't deserve to be.

Also listening to Len Dinneen (Legend) this morning it was interesting in his interview with Paul O'Connell last night to hear he spoke with Leo Cullen and Mick O'Driscoll about the ref and both said he is the most problematic ref've ever had. (Micko vs NZ and Cullen vs L.Irish)

But I glad Northampton gave us that game last night and we won as that is better than a BP win. It was a tough, hard & physical game based on defense.
Also must say Northampton got their defense plan spot on and dropping wingers deep left very little space for Warwick and ROG to aim.

Ref was some tard. I don't usually complain about the ref.... but he was something else altogether.

I think he was just flipping a coin to see who gets the penalty at scrum time. Ludicrous. Not saying that it gave Northampton an advantage as they got ripped off once or twice as well but they also knew they could do whatever they liked to the point where they pretty much had two props on one side of the scrum the way they were boring in...and what's the point in allowing the captain talk to the ref if he just ignores him?

Munster are missing Leamy. They just need that extra bit of rucking power. Ryan was class when he came on.

Northampton played better in many respects but if you can't score with that much ball you don't deserve to win. I'm glad that they're probably through though.

By far my favourite English team...oh yea, Neil Best's blonde highlights are bent.

Not sure what to think of Poitre. He reffed the Tigers/Sale game a few weeks ago and yellowed Payne at LH, who was getting mullered by Cole, and that very nearly turned into a red in the second half. The series of scrums before halftime in that match was the best tension I've seen in a while. And I saw Poitre ref another match last weekend where the scrum came into its own again, and then yesterday as well - all exciting matches with genuine contests in the scrum.

I think he's a ref who reckons the better scrum should be allowed the fruits of its pressure. I'm in favour of that because it makes the game more interesting. Which means Munster better start thinking hard about their front row.

But today we saw Cole getting mullered in the Ospreys game with Lewis as ref (I think most scrums ended in penalties), which might suggest Payne was hard done by by Poitre. So it's hard to know whether Poitre is letting the better scrum have its way or just preferring one scrum over the other.

Well it interesting that on 1 ref alot of captains aren't happy and complain about him

Just got back.

What I liked:

Thomond is a bloody nice stadium.

As is the Munster Fans private Supporters bar! (no cheekey photos of that one.)

Clohessys bar/The Sin Bin is awesome.
22012010.jpg

Even as an opposition fan, watching Paul Warwick in full flow is wonderful.

Singing for Leinster as Saints' fans took over Munsters bar.

What I didn't like:

Shane Geraghty.
Sir losing control in the 1st minute.
Shane Geraghty
The crappy exchange rate so things are bloody expensive
Shane Geraghty
Shane Geraghty playing like a cock
Shane Geraghty
Myler not starting
The local press calling Saints negative when it was obvious Day had a nasty injury at full time
Shane Geraghty.

Overall: The winning team was just about better team, mostly due to the reflective efforts of Geraghty and Warwick.

Booked the hotel already for the Quarters. Will be back.

yeah, hasn't been mentioned yet, but the atmosphere seemed unbelievable. every time someone was tackled or a kick went up in the air the Noise was amazing.

Kinda added to the excitement of the game...actually Munstermuffin did mention it...but yeah! Unrizzle!

As Bullitt has said Limerick is a great place for rugby and no coincidence that whatever team comes the supporters always have a good time.

But Bullitt I agree with you the Saints weren't negative just Geraghty and that if Myler had started it could've been Munster away.
As stated the Ref was terrible for both teams.

The atmosphere was electric for 80mins but when Munster powered by Quinny and Ryan won the scrum against the head the crowd just erupted into a roar as loud as we've ever heard in Thomond.
Lets hope the quarters are similar with the same result :p

Confirmed today:

I have 1 match ticket, 2 coach passes, 2 ferry tickets and one hotel room all booked for April.

Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
