Mr. Schmidt's Wild Ride - Ireland 2015 6 Nations

Can you comment on the rumour that Murray's neck injury is being used to help him recover from concussion problems?

No that's a bit of BS. His neck injury is legit as was clearly seen in Italy. Have been working with him and for obvious reasons no chances will be taken with a neck. I believe Schmidt isn't too concerned with winning the 6Nations just putting the performances right. The World Cup is the big 1 and realistically Schmidts season starts in February but it'll be tinkering with selections slightly.

Been a bit behind on rugby news recently - what's the updates on O'Brien and Healy?

Could be back for Wolfhounds but I think are targeting the Dragons game along with Ruddock.

Too ghoulish to start a pool on which minute he gets injured? Way Ulster's luck have been its all but guaranteed.

Will cut himself shaving, trying not to look like he's in castaway, so before the match.

Why did I think Ruddock was done until April?

Joe Schmidt has released a list of all the currently fit players in Ireland:

Props: Healy, McGrath, Bent, J Cronin, Moore, Ross, White

Hookers: Best, Herring, S Cronin, Strauss

Locks: Foley, Henderson, McCarthy, O'Connell, Toner

Backrow: Conan, Diack, Heaslip, Murphy, O'Brien, O'Donnell, O'Mahony, Ruddock, Ryan

Scrumhalves: Boss, Marmion, Murray, Reddan

Outhalves: Keatley, Madigan, Sexton

Centres: Fitzgerald, Cave, D'arcy, Henshaw, Payne, Reid

Back three: Bowe, Earls, Gilroy, Jones, D Kearney, R Kearney, McFadden, Zebo

The lack of Fanj is an outrage, Leinster would be nothing without him.

So considering that squad a possible Wolfhounds team of

15 Jones
14 Earls
13 Payne
12 Reid
11 Gilroy
10 Keatley
9 Marmion
8 Conan
7 Ruddock
6 Ryan
5 Henderson
4 Foley
3 White
2 Strauss
1 Healy

16 Herring
17 Bent
18 Ross
19 McCarthy
20 Diack
21 Boss
22 Madigan
23 McFadden

I think Schmidt will use this match to give a lot of returning guys game time. I'm probably pretty close to the likely pack, I have no clue what he'll do with the centres though. Should be a good game the Saxons have named an excellent squad, can't wait.

From what I understand some more like Copeland may be drafted in for Wolfhounds game. Cant see Keatley and Madigan both being involved. Whoever is starting 1st game vs Italy won't play here

I'd imagine without including players who may be drafted in it will be:

1. Cronin
2. Strauss
3. White
4. Henderson
5. McCarthy
6. Diack
7. O'Donnell/Murphy
8. Conan
9. Marmion
10. Keatley
11. Earls
12. D'arcy

20. Ryan
21. Boss
22. Reid
23. McFadden/Kearney

I wonder if the players are being rushed back. Bit of a coincidence that Healy, SOB and Henderson are all coming back from long term injuries around the same time.

Hard to say. There's been a really high volume of injuries over the past 12 months. The fact that three players come back within a few weeks of each other isn't that surprising in that context.

As far as I know they've been cautious on Hendo.

From working as physio I can guarantee none have been rushed. Henderson was eased back and has passed every test asked of him.
I know the Leinster medical team well and they said last week SOB has been back on the field a few weeks gradually going from non-contact to contact and has been fine.
Healy is still getting there and as I said earlier it's possible that given the injury and given his position that the extra week is to be sure. I'm sure Schmidt will prefer to miss Healy for even Italy game and have him for remainder of tournament as opposed to throw him in early and loose him to injury again. I don't know Healys level of recovery now but my point is no guy will be risked unless they've shown they're 100% ready. Especially in a RWC year.

MM - would you go so far as to say its not a coincidence in that the physios and doctors haven't tried to rush things as long as they're fit for the 6N?

Id go further saying it's not vital that they're fit for 6N. The RWC is target and well as a provincial physio we follow the recovery schedule and let it happen naturally. Like if the body isn't ready then it does me, the doctor or the player no benefit as we will only make things worst.
